Simple, But Powerful Blog Set Up At The Beach

This simple blogs tutorial is geared for setting up a blog at Crabbysbeach.com Squidoo blog community. The lesson covers the basic activation of powerful plug-ins and choosing a theme for the WordPress platform blogging you'll encounter at Crabbysbeach.

Many people have expressed they have a hard time blogging with WordPress blogs, but in all reality, the WP blogging platform is as easy as you want to make it, or it can be quite advanced. These facts speak volumes about the versatility of the platform.

Step inside the classroom and let's learn Blogging At The Beach 101.

Blogs Tutorial 101

Before you make your first post.....

Taking the time to set up your blog before you make your first post is important for two reasons. The first is you start a routine that can be repeated time and time again, which is very important in niche blogging. By following the same steps with each new blog you will find that the time between grabbing a url and the first post will get shorter.

The second reason is, you (the blogger) will start building relevance into your blog from the first post forward. Blog posts get indexed by the search engines more often than pages, so when the spiders start comparing the posts inside of your blog they look for relevance or 'authority'. The more posts that are relevant to each other, the greater the authority.

Crabbysbeach Squidoo Blogs Community offers some powerful tools for your free blogs that, if used correctly, can broadcast the authority of your blog and its content far and wide. Some of the SEO tools included are:

All In One SEO ~ Not only the blog, but each post can be armed with well structured meta titles, descriptions, and keywords to build deep relevancy throughout the blog structure.

Simple Tags ~ Own your tags. Automatically suggest tags as well as includes tags in meta keywords. You can list categories as tags as well. These features and many more to help establish authority with the search engines.

XML Sitemap Automatically re-constructs a sitemap after every publish and sends it to the important search engines.

Of course the SEO tools take care of the search engines, but what about Web 2.0? Your blog(s) are readied for sharing and promotion with these social plug-ins; Tweetsuite, Sociable, and Add|Share.

The following tutorial should teach you how to have your blog set-up in less than an hour using the simple blog themes. The Magazine and Grid themes will always take longer due to having to get out some bailing wire and duct tape to get them to work properly. Also, this tutorial does not allow for advanced fine tuning of the plug-ins, but they are very solid tools even with the simple set-up.

Enjoy!

Blogging your niche

I will not stand for SPAM at Crabbysbeach. That's pretty much the only real rule, with exception that the blogs are reserved for Squidoo lensmasters.

I strongly urge a lot of blogging about Squidoo and highly recommend the bloggers use the opportunity to blog about their niche lenses or niche sites. Pass some of the Google juice where you need it.

I only ask that any links going directly to affiliates or non-Squidoo or niche related be tagged with the rel="nofollow". Other than that, we are a "dofollow" site.

Let's have fun!

New to Squidoo, and appreciate your really informative lens here. Wordpress is a challenge for me, but I think I've made it more complicated than it has to be. Love the Led Zep video, and love the trivia question- of course the president's name in 1978 was Barack Obama. That's been his name since 1961. :-)

Nice work. Very informative. Was the President Jimmy Carter at the time. Sorry, I was too lazy to google it. Besides, I've gotta get busy building a blog apparently.

Gr8 work Alex. Am sending to my nephew Bo, a talented songwriter and musician, who is just graduating from COC, heading to Thailand for 2 weeks and then to a job in Martha's Vineyard for the rest of the summer. Encouraging him to start a blog for his music and travel experiences which will help him monetize what he is passionate about. This would be the best place for him to start, but I guess he would need to join Squidoo first eh?
