Orlando Bloom was picked to portray the elf Legolas in the LORD OF THE RINGS movie trilogy right out of drama school. For the first two or three years of his career, most of his fans didn't realize he wasn't blond-haired and blue-eyed.
He recently bought a new house in LA and painted it black, apparently to the shock of his celebrity neighbors. He's currently shooting a role in an anthology called NEW YORK, I LOVE YOU and his next role after that might be the Hong Kong martial arts flick THE RED CIRCLE.

Orlando Jonathan Blanchard Bloom (born 13 January 1977) is an English actor. He had his break-through role in the early 2000s as the elf-prince Legolas in The Lord of the Rings and blacksmith Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy of films, and subsequently established himself as a lead in Hollywood films, including Troy, Elizabethtown and Kingdom of Heaven. Bloom most recently appeared in the sequels Category: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest - and Category: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - . Bloom made his stage debut in In Celebration at the Duke of Yorks Theatre, St. Martin's Lane, which ended its run on 15 September 2007.

In the summer of 2007 while his on-screen alter ego Will Turner was playing pirate, Orlando Bloom was starring in a stage production of the play IN CELEBRATION. Set in Yorkshire, the story is about three sons who all live in south England who take a trip home to Yorkshire where they grew up for their parents anniversary. It is a somewhat somber drama, playing on themes of British class and the conflicts in lifestyle between a small mining town and the big city.The show closed on September 15th, so if you missed it, here's a preview feature and some reviews:

- Orlando Bloom was born in Canterbury, Kent, England on January 13, 1977. The man he briefly knew as his father, Harry Bloom, was a legendary political activist who fought for civil rights in South Africa. But Harry died of a stroke when Orlando was only four years old. After that, Orlando and his older sister, Samantha Bloom, were raised by their mother, Sonia, and family friend, Colin Stone. When Orlando was 13, Sonia revealed to him that Colin was actually his biological father.

Or course, none of the tattoos you see here are real. They were just done for a magazine photo shoot.His Lord of the Rings Elvish tattoo is just visible on the inside of his right forearm, when it's not being airbrushed out of magazine appearances or movie roles. Orlando also has a tribal sun design just below his navel. You'll have to watch more carefully for that tattoo but it does make occasional appearances in candid pictures.
