Top 10 Best Blu-ray Movies For Sound and Picture Quality Before Summer 2008

High-Def Digest gives Casino Royale a bit of a mixed review. It praises the story saying that this Bond story restored the sense of urgency and consequence to the story. It, however, gives the blu-ray format a bit of a mixed review saying that the soundtrack is excellent and holds up to blu-ray; that they liked the transfer to blu-ray (rather than loving it); and that they enjoyed the extras. They finish by saying that, if you are a fan of James Bond, Casino Royale is a must-watch in high definition.

DVD Talk Review says that Casino Royale is a terrific part of the James Bond franchise and that the blu-ray features excellent picture and sound and some interesting supplements. They say it is highly recommended.

Big Picture Big Sound called Casino Royale a stunning visual and audio at home and even went so far as to say that the experience of this movie may be better at home than that at your local movie theatre. I expect that is why this movie made Sound and Vision Magazine's list.

It is actually rather amazing that 2001 A Space Odyssey remains firmly planted on the list of best blu-ray discs ever, since it was one of the early releases. However, it still ranks extremely well and can be found on the list of the best blu-ray discs ever. Sound & Vision Magazine says that this movie looks better on this Blu-ray disc than it has looked since 1968.

This trilogy consists of three movies which received mixed movie reviews (one good, one great and one odd) but Sound & Vision magazine said that the images and sound on the blu-ray discs are, like Spider-man himself, very hard to beat.

This movie has been called the best superhero movie ever because it had a big budget, big special effects and a great character-driven plot. There are two-hours of features on this film. Unfortunately, it appears that this film is no longer available on Amazon, except as part of the trilogy.

Amazon said, "Spider-Man is exactly what you're looking for in a Super-hero block buster movie." However, as of February 22nd, Amazon states that this movie is discontinued. That means, if you want Spider-man on blu-ray, you will have to buy it as part of a boxed set, like the trilogy.

This Collector's Edition Blu-ray of 300 includes a new documentary about the legend, a digital copy of the theatrical version, a hardcover art book, lucite display with motion film clip, photo cards and all of the contents from the 2-disc edition.

I tried to re-write what Sound & Vision Magazine said about this movie but I think they said it best: "The ass-kicking prowess of 300's Spartan warriors is conveyed in spectacular manner by this disc's muscular 5.1 Dolby TrueHD Soundtrack."

High-Def Digest said that this blu-ray disc is a very fine blu-ray release with solid video, 'kick-ass' audio and sufficient supplements to be called special edition.

Blu-ray.com says, that 300 may not be for everyone but that it is a blockbuster. Few movies have such CGI worlds, effects, battles and violence. The story in 300 is strong, the film impressive and the ride intense.

IGN says, that this is a great combination of mythmaking and ultramodern technique, a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that is not like anything else you have seen. They gave 300 a ten out of ten!

Black Hawk Down is the story of the American seige of Mogadishu and depicts the urgency of ground-force battle. Sound & Vision Magazine says that the crisp picture and explosive sound make this story a true revelation.

Chad Varnadore of HomeTheatreSpot.com gives Ratatouille blu-ray 5 paws up! He said that both the audio and video are breathtaking and that he's not sure how they could have made this look or sound any better. Plus, the extras add more! "Animated storytelling just doesn't get any better. And neither do high def discs.

Simon Brew of Den of Geek says that this is the best-looking HD disc he has seen because of the stunning level of detail. The sound is strong (although not in action-movie style) and the extras are plenty. Pixar's best film to date.

Sound & Vision says quite simply that the animation in Ratatouille looks brilliant.

Letters from Iwo Jima is a 2006 Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning war film directed by Clint Eastwood. The cast includes Ken Watanabe and Kazunari Ninomiya. Letters tells the Battle of Iwo Jima from the Japanese soldiers' perspective and is a companion to Flags of Our Fathers. The film is in Japanese.

Future Movies says, "this film was made for the HD market and that it looks stunning. While some transfers to Blu Ray don't seem to do the extra storage capacity justice, Phoenix is laid out for you at 1080p High Definition with a range of audio settings and just jumped off the screen, particularly if using a nice been flat screen and an HDMI cable."

High-Def Digest says, "...it's great to finally have Harry looking (and sounding) so great on high-def."

Sound & Vision Magazine says that the 'reference-quality' audio and video make this film of interest to more than just Harry Potter fans!
