Blue And Gold Macaws Are A Great Choice But Not For Everyone
The Blue And Gold Macaw sometimes called a Blue And Yellow Macaw is a truly magnificent bird. The mainly blue and gold coloration reminds us of royalty. He is for me the King of parrots. Sure there are larger and equally beautiful Macaws. However it is the traits of this particular bird that places him so high in not only my estimation but countless thousands of others.

LUCKY BLUE AND GOLD MACAW
What Love And Commitment Will Do
Blue and Gold Macaw Finds A New Life
Mission Statement: Don't Buy That Blue And Gold Macaw!
Parrot Rescues Are Full Of Blue And Gold Macaws From Those Who Shouldn't Have
The simple fact is that owning, caring, providing, maintaining a Blue And Gold Macaw is not a task everyone is equal too. Please don't fall merely for the Macaws beauty. That is one of natures traps. Don't fall for his intelligence or his affection all are traps. Please fall because you understand his needs and you can provide them. Please fall because it is what you in your heart need to do. Fall because you love commitment in your life. Fall because the Blue And Gold Macaw needs you far more than you need him. Fall because the idea of spending 30-40-50 or more years caring everyday for and about a 2-3 year old noisy loud, messy, sometimes destructive and completely life altering child just makes you smile. Fall because the thought of not doing so will leave you empty.
If you merely buy into and fall for the traps the odds are very good you will absolutely positively regret doing so. Love at first sight with a Blue And Gold Macaw happens easily enough. Living with a Blue And Gold Macaw or any large Macaw just is not so easy.
5 Serious Mistakes Made By Blue And Gold Macaw Owners
Really You Can Stop Problems Before They Start By Living Up To Your Commitment
1.Purchasing a cage to small for this large bird. Making this mistake is almost sure to lead to additional problems with a Blue And Gold Macaw. Some possible symptoms of to small a cage can be screaming and plucking. A to small cage leads to general unhappiness and stress and can manifest itself in many ways.2.Poorly kept cage conditions are another huge mistake. Please do not ever assume your Blue And Gold Macaw is not aware of his cage conditions. An uncleaned cage devoid of the necessary items like adequate and varied fresh food, clean fresh water, toys, wood to chew on, proper perches is very likely to lead to behavior problems.
3.Punishing bad behavior doesn't work and many people punish their Blue And Gold Macaws. out of frustration. A Macaw does not understand being punished. A Macaw only learns that he doesn't particularly like you anymore or worse becomes fearful of you. Making noise morning and evening is not bad behavior its normal behavior, chewing likewise. Calling out throughout the day is also normal behavior. Behavior such as screaming relentlessly is not normal behavior in a happy Macaw. There is almost without fail a reason for abnormal and bad behavior in a Macaw. Don't punish it find out what it is and correct it no other way will get you the results you need.
4.Don't reward bad behaviors rewarding unwanted behavior with food and or treats teaches a Macaw that a certain action will get him rewarded. Blue And Gold Macaws are exceptionally intelligent. Believe me if you reward any Macaw for unwanted behavior he will learn. You will continually receive more of what you do not want.
5.Lack of interaction and attention is a very common problem. Sometimes we just get to busy. When that happens it is your Blue And Gold Macaw that suffers the most. Aside from health, and his living conditions it is boredom your Macaw will suffer from most.
Blue And Gold Macaws are intelligent, they are curious, inquisitive and playful fellows. They thrive (must have) on mental stimulation. Being left on their own in a cage regardless of size and furnishings will not provide the mental, physical and emotional stimulation they need to be happy. That is up to you.

The Good The Bad And The Ugly Of The Blue And Gold Macaw.
Alrighty thats enough of the lovey dovey cuddly stuff. Everyone knows and sees those examples. From here on out it is about the tough stuff. The stuff that separates the "I want one of those they're cute" from those who just have to have something or someone to commit too. I suppose we should start at the beginning.Initial Expense
If you've gotten this far it shouldn't surprise you that purchasing a baby Blue And Gold Macaw or any Macaw is expensive for most people. For best results buying a baby from a reputable breeder is advised. These babies come fed by hand and the socialization that must be continued has been started for you.
Aside from the bird itself $900-$1200 give or take. There is the matter of a ,large cage. Directly proportional to a large space. Macaws need room lots of it. Nothing less than 3x4x5ft should be considered. Don't skimp here. Buy bigger if you can. Stainless steel cages are the all around best. Stainless is also unbelievably expensive. Warning again don't skimp on the cage, the bigger the better. Your life will be better with bigger because your birds life will be better. That which makes a birds life better makes your life easier, end of story.
Then there is the matter of stocking the cage toys, stainless bowls, plates, ladders, perches, swings etc. Spending $1800 to $2200 bucks and in cases a whole lot more should not shock you. You should get a certificate of health or health guarantee from the breeder, so go to the vet and make sure during the first week.
The Blue And Gold Macaws Chewing And Gnawing
What can you say about chewing and gnawing. The Blue And Gold Macaw is simply as bad as any other when it comes to doing what they do naturally. Macaws chew and Macaws gnaw. The chewing and gnawing are not really so bad. Keeping plenty of wood in their cage will help keep this manageable. However chewing is one of the many reasons that constant supervision when outside of the cage is so vitaly important. The Blue And Gold Macaws beak is designed with chewing in mind and it will only take a moment unwatched for him to latch on and damage that hand me down antigue whatever left to you by your great great great grandmother. You know that one with all the sentimental irreplaceable value. The one insured for thousands. Yep, that will be the one he gets to first. Don't forget also electrical cords one bite through one of those could quickly and easily kill your baby. Get them up and shield them when and wherever possible.
