Hi - I really like the ginger jar. These are always a nice size and, as you say, are great for storing all manner of things.

I have my mother's set of Blue Danube, and as with many things in life; I didn't appreciate them so much until now. I had always planned to hand them down to my two daughters one day, so I stopped using them many years ago to keep them safe! However, I now realize that I should be enjoying them myself, while I am still alive! Besides, neither of them may be able to use them or even want to use them. We are about to do a total kitchen remodel, so I've decided that this is the time to bring them back out. I actually would like to design the kitchen around the dishes. I'm having hardwood floors, and using my white appliances. I'd love some ideas about paint color, etc.

My kitchen is done in all white appliances and creamy off white cabinets. But the stuff on the counter is all blue and stainless steel. Everyone says it is beautiful:)

I love the Blue Danube pattern. My first set of dishes was cobalt blue and white. I've always loved that color combination. You have certainly found some lovely china to spotlight here. I enjoyed learning more about the history of this pattern. Thanks!

Beautiful dishes - and thank you for sharing the information and history about the blue Danube dinnerware. My mom used to have quite a few pieces as well - and I always liked them. They do have a certain special kind of elegance to them. No wonder they are the choice of royalties so often.

Where is "here"? I don't find a link that goes anywhere. ("The buy it on sale here! more" link goes nowhere for me) I am familiar with Replacements ltd. and ebay actions. Replacements wants $50 each for a soup bowl. We broke 6 of those...A few years back there was a place in Australia with killer deals but they no longer deal in it.
  • Heather426 Jun 9, 2011 @ 11:40 am | delete
I meant here on the page. I found a bunch at ebay! and I would put your name on the Amazon page of it to be emailed when more shows up. People are actually selling things on Amazon in the same way they used to for eBay. So if you give them your email, they will notify you. Good luck! I would also try Craig's list. Sometimes estate sales have it.
  • Heather426 Jun 8, 2011 @ 7:12 pm | delete
That is really sad. You can still find it here though.

We had a shelf give way 2 days ago and just shattered over a thousand dollars of Blue Danube. Sigh... sure wish they would reintroduce it.

Thank you!! This was also my grandmother's pattern, and I also picked it for my own. I'm so sad that it's now out of production. I have all the pieces I need, but that doesn't stop me from picking up odd pieces off Ebay. There are so many pieces!!
  • chefkeem Aug 1, 2010 @ 10:53 pm | delete
Food tastes much better out of Blue Danube Dishes. Too bad that the Danube river has actually turned brown in recent years. (Probably from all the food trash left on Blue Danube Dishes. Maybe. Or, maybe, I'm just being silly. Probably.) Anyways, pretty lens, Heather! :)

I used to have a few pieces of this. It was darker than Willow pattern. I have one oval dish minus its lid and a couple of odd plates left. Thanks for reminding me of this lovely china.
