The blue ram is a non aggressive dwarf cichlid from South America. Learn about and watch video of this delightful cichlid.

What Are Blue Ram Cichlids?

From the rivers of Sough America comes a range of dwarf cichlid. The blue ram is one such fish that is widely kept in aquariums. Despite their small size they are very colorful fish which look beautiful in a planted aquarium.

As a non aggressive species they will generally only cause trouble if breeding. During such time the blue rams will become defensive parents. They are easily spawned in ceramic pot caves in aquariums as small as two foot in length.

Feed blue ram fish a small cichlid pellet supplemented by frozen bloodworms. Water is best kept around 26 degrees Celcius with low to medium hardness and a neutral pH.

Stay Away! (when the honeymoon is over)

After guarding their fries for about 3 days together, the male and female suddenly started to fight for unknown reasons. The female, who won the fight had been chasing away the male whenever he came close to the fries.

Blue Ram Cichlid Fry

Many German Blue Ram Babies!

Seen here are the male and female German Blue Rams and their babies. There must be at least 200 of them! This is about the 5th time they spawn, and the first to be patient enough to wait until they finally hatch. Previous attempts all failed when the inexperienced parents ate the eggs and the fry within 2-4 days.
