Blueberry Festival Fun In Plymouth, IN

Food, crafts, carnival rides, fireworks, hot air balloons, blueberries galore, and the Blueberry Stomp. What do these words conjure up for locals in Plymouth, IN? The Marshall County Blueberry Festival, of course!

The phrase strikes fear into the hearts of some locals, as they think of the additional half-million people that will descend into the sleepy northern Indiana community over Labor Day Weekend every year.

While it does cause inconvenience to the town's 10,000 residents, it also creates a festive air through the entire community. It also brings in much-needed revenue to the largely agricultural area.

The festival is coming soon.

Make your plans now to book your hotel room, before they're all filled up!

My Top Reasons for Attending the Marshall County Blueberry Festival

Looking at the list of upcoming events for the Marshall County Blueberry Festival can be daunting, especially if you're only going for one day. Here is my personal list of things that you must check out if attending the festival.

  1. Fireworks

If you do not go to the festival for any other reason, the fireworks should be it. It's hailed as one of the best fireworks displays in the Midwest, and I can't argue that one.

The display lasts for about half an hour, with more than one rocket shot off at a time for the majority of the display. These are some of the largest and most colorful fireworks I personally have ever seen. Even better, they are free.

The field fills up early, and it gets very crowded about an hour before the fireworks start. I would suggest bringing your blanket and/or chairs and picking your spot before enjoying an evening at the festival.
  2. Tacos from Templo Calvario Assamblea.

OK, I don't know what it is about these tacos. They are simply excellent, and I don't even know what it is. They're a local favorite that if you're at the festival, you shouldn't pass up. They're not much more than a local fast food taco, but a million times better, so you can actually get enough to fill up on.
  3. Walleye Sandwiches.

If you like fish, these are another local favorite. The sandwiches and cheese fries are a don't-miss food at the festival. Couple these with some Tom's Tasty Taters and you'll be eating the best fair food you've ever had (besides the tacos)!
  4. Craft Booths.

OK, when I say craft booths, I'm not speaking lightly. If you are a "crafty" this is the place for you. I have my favorites that I look for every year, but there are always so many new things to check out and explore. With over 400 vendors, there's something for everyone.

I like to look at the craft booths to find things that I can go home and try myself. I've seen jewelry, wood carvings, hand crafted hair accessories, dish rags, purses made out of old billboards, hand-made clothing, candles, kitchen accessories, to simply touch on the tip of the ice burg.
  5. Carnival.

The carnival isn't the biggest or best around, but it is clean and safe. The ride attendants are actually well-groomed and polite and appear to care about the patrons.

A few years ago, my youngest daughter got on a ride and immediately decided that she was too scared to continue on it. The ride operator stopped the ride, and even refunded her the tickets!

Mega passes and advance-sale wristbands are available at a discount from the Blueberry Festival office.
