Blue Ghost Tunnel West End
Here is a step by step picture and video tour of how to get to the West End and East End of the Merritton Underground Grand Trunk Railway 700 foot long Tunnel located in Thorold, Ontario Canada or beside St Catharines Ontario Canada. Glenridge Quarry Naturalization site , Bruce Trail Map and Guide for the Thorold South Canals Hike which runs near the East End of the Blue Ghost Tunnel.
After a spirit dressed in blue was spotted and photographed here the tunnel became know to the local people as The Blue Ghost Tunnel.
It is located near Gate 12 of Glendale Ave, St Catharines, Ontario. From the QEW Niagara it's past the White Oaks Tennis and Raquet Club, Taylor Rd and then Horner Rd.
Make a right onto Seaway Haulage Rd which is not marked with a road sign. You may see the green "GATE 12" sign for the GM PLANT close by it.
We first went there in the summer of 2006. Here I write about the historical facts about the place, the ghost stories that I've heard about and my true tales of coming into contact with the ghosts and spirits that haunt the BGT.
This is my second lens about the BGT the first one has all the documentation from the standard newspaper to historical accounts about the freak accidents that happened near Lock 6 of the Fourth Welland Ship Canal. You can find those on my lens entitled "The Blue Ghost Tunnel," "Ghosts with unfinished Business," "Ghost Talk," and "Paranormal-Ghosts-Orbs-Ecto-Mist."
As you can see I have been taking pics, I finally bought a camera that has the usb connection so now I can download my own pics to the site. I have daytime and nighttime shots.
I've also created a video documentary called "The Welland Canal Wetlands" on my youtube channel - idea girl consulting. It's the story about the BGT, it's ghosts, a 200 year old cemetery, bones and caskets and grave sites are unearthed. The best thing about this is the story of the ghost that haunted the grounds in and around the Blue Ghost Tunnel and how we met him one day...
Make sure you bring a flashlight and watch out for wild animals (coyotes, skunks and raccoons - loud sqwacking is the raccoons fighting. I've posted a whole photo album of pics on my Facebook Photo Album, and some thumbnails of the pics on here. I have videos of sounds and wild animals that you might see while exploring The Blue Ghost Tunnel

Merritton Underground Railway Tunnel Historical Facts
March 6, 2011 Blue ghost tunnel, Grand Trunk Railway
The bridge would allow boats and trains to cross the canal by Lock 17 of the Third Welland Canal (1887-1932).
The pathway from Gate 12 parking area is a mixture of dirt and stones.
Wear comfortable shoes and beware of rainy, snowy days as this makes the stones very slippery and treacherous to walk on.
It's about a 20 minute walk if you follow it all the way up to the old pump house then turn right onto the road and follow the path down to the "WEST END" of the blue ghost tunnel.
Here is a photo of what I believe is the "west end' of the blue ghost tunnel before they bricked it up in 2006.

march 2011 - blue ghost tunnel, golf park,
You want to head South East from this bridge along the Bruce Trail that borders a golf course on your right and the trails and west end of the blue ghost tunnel are to the left of this.
this bridge no longer swings but be warned..
USE CAUTION THERE ARE 150 KM VIA RAIL TRAINS CROSSING THIS BRIDGE SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. Do not be on the tracks when A TRAIN comes, there is no place to go on this bridge (safely)
there's a short cut through the golf course (WARNING WATCH OUT FOR FLYING GOLF BALLS) for the Bruce Trail, you can park up the hill behind Niagara College in Niagara on the Lake on Taylor Rd just before Warner Rd theres a conservation on your left, park there, walk across taylor rd and go over the wire fence you will see blue markings on the posts for Bruce Trail.
The trail goes through some trees and out to the green, follow the line of trees down the center that head towards this bridge and it eventually links up to the trail that goes along the east side of the third welland canal.
your looking at about an hours walk from taylor road to the bridge. head south from the bridge and on your left is a trail that goes DOWN steep hill. it's got dense brush and it's hard to find. you MIGHT see a faint blue mark on the bark of a small tree (on your right along the canal wall) this marks this hard to find trail.
I actually received an email from a man from australia who visited the BGT in the 1980s and since hasn't been able to find the East end of the tunnel. He was very excited to know that we did and took photos and made a video about the trails to get to it.
Below is a description of the bruce trailway called the Thorold South Canals Hikem and Glenridge Quarry Naturalization site (down the steep hill on your left is the area where the EAST END of the Blue Ghost Tunnel) can be found.

posted jan 12, 2011 - haunted , grand trunk railway , photos by linda randall
When we visited the blue ghost tunnel west end entrance we found evidence that there was some sort of spirit being in the tunnel. it was quite angry back in 2008, before I started doing any investigating into the 700 foot underground grand trunk railway tunnel. I was told that 2 engineers died in a train crash back in 1903 inside of this tunnel, This story was false.
I reveal what really happened in the tunnel with newspaper articles and research that I did at the Museum archives which is located at the Welland Canals Centre at Lock 3,1932 welland canals parkway, st catharines Ontario L2R 7K6 905 984 8880 - open daily 9 am - 5 pm
I went here to study the archives about the blue ghost tunnel and found out that the train wreck was about 100 feet west of the west end of the haunted blue ghost tunnel.
It's pretty cool, there.. There is the welland ship canal museum where you find out the history of canals, 1, 2, 3, 4, 4b.. yes there is a 4b that I didn't even know existed. We travelled around and I took photos of it all, unfortunately the computer with all those photos died and I wasn't able to post my videos about it.
So I've been going back over my previous work in relation to these lenses and my welland canal wetlands stories, tales about a 200 year old cemeter, the old pump house and why I think that this tunnel was haunted for so many years, by lost souls who are buried under the lock 6 pondage area (1000 bodies lie there according to historical documents they were unmarked graves and then there was 300 marked graves with tombstones paid for by the families of St Peter's Cemetery, The Old German Church and St John's Anglican Church which is now in thorold, ontario canada. Some of the bodies were moved to the old lakeview cemetery up in thorold ontario canada. All of them should have been moved...
The Ecto Mist Factor
march 6, 2011
I never knew what ecto mist was until we first visited the blue ghost tunnel back in 2006. We went with six people and this girl had a digital camera. She took a photo inside the tunnel and screamed. ON the screen was the white misty image of a seafaring captain with a mustache and beard and he looked angry. we heard the words in a raspy voice say "get out!"
we all ran out of the tunnel, freaked out by the bad vibe it gave. It was my FIRST encounter with the supernatural - ghosts - ecto mist. That was the first time I ever heard of the term.

I blew the pixels up from 300 to 1000 and was shocked to see a body floating in the air today.
Holy you can see the skull with two round black holes for the eyes and a sketeal frame with arms and legs..
I knew it was something but it was so hard to see.
I just figured out today how to modify photos and i'm like freaked out by this photo.
It was taken inside the blue ghost tunnel in 2007 - 2009?
I can't remember!
Lock 3 Large Orb - Updating the Squidoo Lenses in Jan 2011
photos, stories by linda randall, works in progress at page rank 3 million?
I had the shock of my life today when I opened up my squidoo dashboard and found 62 of my lenses saying a page rank rating of 3,000,000?
WHat!!! they have been from 5,000 to 200,000 for the past two years.
So I got busy updating and found a new cool tool on my computer. Paint on my windows 7 for my new computer can resize photos...
COOL..
so all these photos that I took of the 700 foot underground Blue Ghost Tunnel, orbs, ecto mist and spirit forms can be resized from the 300 pixels (can't see a thing) to 1000 pixels (OMG I see everything now - faces, bodies, skeletal frames of the ghost pics)
I did see them clearly on my digital camera when I originally took the photos.
I think it was the summer of 2008?
Honestly I was in a car accident in sept 2006 and there are many DAYS when my brain is fuzzy, and doesn't think clearly.
the scary thing is I'll do something and I won't even remember doing it.
Sometimes I do some really stupid stuff too, not thinking and then I go back over my notes or blog posts and think what the hell was i thinking?
anyways I started working on the lenses around 930 am this morning. It's 1141 am now EST and with relief I see that the pages went back.
I think it was a heads up from the powers that be... they want me to update these pages! lol
I do 12 daily blogs so I don't give as much attention to my squidoo sites.
but some of them are rocking the movies, music, celebrity and entertainment sites to squidoo wants me to get my butt in gear and update everything on them.
Since the 300 pixels make it hard to see the "spirit" forms.. others argue that it's mist, and water particles...
it was dry in there that day, and there was hardly any water in the stream.. if it was full to the brim and raining then yes I'd give credit to "water" particles.
But it was a dry season for that area.. I know because we travelled around to all the local waterfalls and there wasn't ONE drop of water at the rockway glen bruce hiking trail lookout and I forget where the olther one was but it was out along st paul west.
for the past 4 years I've been studying the area and taking photos and writing about the welland ship canals' history.
Stories, tales and legends. Trying to find out what or why the blue ghost tunnel was haunted.
I did find out and I did a video series about what I found on my youtube channel. I created several squidoo lenses to tell the stories about the ghosts that haunt the place, their stories and tales and well I just haven't told you everything that I know.
http://www.youtube.com/ideagirlconsulting
As for anyone who thinks i'm making this up...
well I have historical articles to back up my stories and they were published in the standard in the 1900s, and due to my 3 months of historical research, I argued with the thorold division about the 200 year old cemetery's location which according to them hadn't been found since 1970s by one of their guys (I forget his name, he sent me an email thanking me)..
I wrote to the st lawrence seaway and the welland canal, plus the bishop, the cemeteries and churches involved and they bulldozed the area and removed the tomb stones back in the spring of 2010. I've documented before and after pictures. I've talked to other psychic investigators and enthusiasts who visited the area and I share their findings, websites, videos and tales on these lenses as well.
Squidoo posts advertisements on the sites to generate their own income. That's why it's FREE to make lenses on Squidoo. You don't pay anything to write about your passions, goals and dreams on here. And it's cool because it has templates, modules to use to make things.. So easy to make stuff and I never take the time to read half the stuff they send me.
So the 62 lenses in RED made me fall off my chair and scream.. literally..
I thought it was more bad luck in 2011.. then this little voice said.. but you are at the helm of your life..
you make your own choices.. if you do not update the websites you know they fall in ranks..
thanks for moving them back up to 200,000 from 3,000,000
I have loads of photos to add here and the REASON I haven't updated it is because everytime I get online to do it, Squidoo is shut down for maintenance.
I always work the night shift from 830 pm till about 5 am on my sites.. I guess that's when they did too.
I'm too busy with all my other projects to do it at any other time.
So I'll have to designate a new squidoo update time i guess to keep up with what's required of me
and hopefully they will reward me for my efforts and let me get into that coveted 100 lens club status - prestige and awards..
I love winning awards.. When you work hard you want to be rewarded or get a pat on the back.
We all do, right?
I just took some recent photos of the 4th welland canal because i saw an article in my standard newspaper (delivered every friday to my door) about them destroying the old gates.
It will be interesting if they find any skeletal remains there.. according to historical records, many of the welland canal builders back in the 1800s would fall into the gates and walls and they just poured cement and buried them in there. Many of them removed their tags before shimmying down into the walls to construct them.. so they couldn't identify them. Anyone else who died where they could reach them was buried in an unmarked grave at the lock 6 pondage area.
I read this in the files at the lock 3 museum of archives by the st peters cemetery and lakeview cemetery records, newspaper articles dating back to the early 1800s - 1900s for the history of st catharines. Some of the stuff made my blood curl and I was quite angry at how these people were treated.
not only that, but the city has received over 100 letters from relatives in europe asking where their fathers, brothers, uncles, cousins are.. you see they came to work on the welland canal, sent post cards home then disappeared, without a trace. I think some of them are buried there inside the welland canals walls as history dictates.
I cannot prove this stuff but I read it and as shocking as it is, thats how we were way back then, uneducated, simple minded and we did what was the easiest thing to do.
If you didn't or couldn't pay the 5 bucks to have your body buried properly then get a tombstone you were tossed into a pile of bodies of unmarked graves at the lock 6 pondage area - where the original st peters cemetery , the old german church used to be.
they did move 100 bodies to the lakeview cemetery, but they were paid to move 300. the guy in charge back then was known to drink...
anyways it's all water under the bridge now. They refuse to do anything about it so for now.. this tale, legend will have to stay that way...
here is a picture I took at the lock 3 canal and found some orbs there.
Back in the early 1900s I believe there was a plane crash in that area, I'll have to find it again...

In the 300 pixels it looks like a finger in the 1000 pixels it looks like a large electrical form. You can't see this with the naked eye, there's total blackness. But with a digital camera you can pick up the most amazing things.
I didn't believe in ghosts or hauntings until I saw these pics.. Then I began to wonder.. Then when I heard the voices asking me to bury them properly.. but thats another story written on my other BGT lens called:

Facts about this bridge.
connects to the bruce trail on the other side but the golf park near lock 17 of the 3rd welland ship canal. Dangerous to cross, Via Rail travels about 150 km per hour. If you are on this bridge when that train comes.. your dead meat... no where to go.. Don't use it!
The Welland Canal Bridge 15 is a two-track Baltimore truss swing bridge located in the disused section of the Welland Canal within the city of Welland, Ontario. This section of canal is now known as the Welland Recreational Waterway. The bridge formerly carried the main line of the Canada Southern Railway (CASO) over the canal.

Most of the Bruce Trails, ATV, Motor, dirt bike trails are all connected around the lock 6 pondage area, including the trails that lead down to the 3rd welland ship canal. You can also see remants of the walls from the 1st and 2nd welland ship canals. Beautiful and interesting to see a part of history..
In the winter time they drain the lock 6 pondage area. walk along the bruce trail (merritt) and you will see remants of the locks in the MIDDLE of the drained lake.. You cannot see these walls when they fill it back up with water. You can see all the seagulls sitting on it during the spring, summer, fall seasons... Lots of ducks and geese visit here as well from time to time.

every time we went hiking we bumped into people from out west and east. These people were from out east - novia scotia canada. They liked it here so much that they decided to make it their home town now. ;)
This is a photo of the west end entrance to the blue ghost tunnel, formerly known as the 700 foot underground grand trunk railway that connects to the bridge 15 swing gate. The trains ran from north to south and east to west. the bridge was used as an intersection for trains coming from out west to swing south.
There's 2 other underground tunnels in this area. One is completely sealed up by the golf course (over by niagara college - niagara on the lake by glendale ave and QEW Niagara, and Taylor Rd has a parking area and woodland conservation area. pass over to the golf course where the bruce trail heads straight through the middle of the golfing grounds and you will end up at the bridge 15 swing bridge which leads to the bruce trail by lock 17 at the 3rd welland canal and if you go south east on the FIRST trail on your left that goes DOWN you can walk along the brush and find the East End of the Blue Ghost Tunnel.
You cannot reach it during the rainy seasons or in late spring. We got there in april, may 2010 and took photos of that side of the tunnel and I have them posted here on a video that I made.
