Some great resources on how bluegrass came to be

Bluegrass is an awesome genre of music, through difficult acoustic instrumentation combined with great spirit, Bluegrass bands are second to none and the music is like nothing else! Listening to bluegrass music and melodies will put you right at home with your true roots with its traditional sounds.

Developed in the 1940s, Bluegrass was a combination of blues, jazz, and ragtime. There were several bands or musicians that created Bluegrass, but Bill Monroe is usually known as the found of the Bluegrass music style.

There are several places where one can find more information on bluegrass bands and music. Another place that features great resources on bluegrass music is Wikipedia.

You'll find there are actually several generations of Bluegrass Music - most people agree that there are three. Some of the bluegrass bands actually met resistance during the different generations when attempting to use electric instruments instead of the traditional acoustic.
