Blue Hair Dye - getting in touch with your inner Smurfette or High Style?
I first became aware of blue hair dye watching American Idol's Adam Lambert come to prominence. Then I noticed a few other celebrities experimenting with the look.
For me, highlights look is great! Whole head is ghoulish! To say that someone is channeling their inner Smurfette is the nicest way I can put it.
Yet, overall, it's fun to play with different colors... and blue is a lot more fun and edgy than the henna of my generation's wild side!!
Blue Tips & Highlights
The possibilities are endless!
This girl looks terrific with just the front "shock" of blue hair. I've also seen tips on a 9 year old blonde football player friend of my son's and he looked sensationally cool!
There are tints and then dyes. If you have dark hair, a tint will glint in th light but not last very long. if you want a proper lurid blue, you will have strip the color out of your hair first so that the blue dye can adher to something. Most of these dyes available on the market today are "semi-permanent".
There are varying degrees - from "amplified" which lasts 30% longer to temporary styling gels that shampoo right out.

Some brands, like Manic Panic, are 100% guaranteed vegan.
Came into existence to serve the Punk Rock movement.

Here's some options of dye for you to try it!
There's varying degrees of "last" from semi-permanent which is supposed to last approx. 12 weeks, "amplified" which last 30% longer and then styling gel that shampoos right out. (Disclaimer: I've not tried it.)

A Little Blue Dye Goes a Long Way!
Blue Hair Dye courtesy of Kool Aid

It should be noted that the color looks best if you have already got your hair blonde.
1. Purchase four packages of sugar-free powdered Kool-Aid Tropical Punch. The blue artificial coloring is what ends up dying your hair. Decide if you want to incorporate another shade like purple by mixing the packages with a grape flavored Kool-Aid package.
2. Mix two Kool-Aid Tropical Punch packages iin a bowl with two tbsps. of conditioner. Use enough conditioner to cover your entire head or the parts you want dyed.
3. Add more of the Kool-Aid packages until you get the desired blue color for your hair. Depending on the length of your hair, you may need to use up to four packages.
4. Apply the mixture on your hair, and make sure it is evenly distributed. Be sure to use gloves so you don't get dye on your hands. Wipe up any mixture on your neck and face with a wet towel.
5. Blow dry your hair until it is completely dry. Allow for the dye to slowly color your hair for up to 1-1/2 hours.
6. Wash your hair with cold water to lock in the color in your hair cuticle. Blow dry your hair, or allow it to dry naturally.

Woad, Isatis tinctoria
Woad is a plant that had a blue dye, and it is also used to dye hair. It is more dye fast in hair than indigo, but it does not create the vivid blue-black. You can use woad to dye skin blue, but you also cannot dye skin black with woad.

Adverse Effects
For some, blue hair dye can be a problem. Slight, but a problem.

It Says, on Wikipedia: -
Hair coloring involves the use of chemicals capable of removing, replacing and/or covering up pigments naturally found inside the hair shaft. Use of these chemicals can result in a range of adverse effects, including temporary skin irritation and allergy, hair breakage, skin discoloration and unexpected hair color results.
Additionally, there is ongoing debate regarding more serious health consequences of hair color usage, including lead poisoning. (and cancer, the blanket disclaimer du jour, so to be responsible, I threw it in.)

- Good lens! I used to dye my hair all different colors as a teenager. I loved it. Now I usually just use henna hair dyes because they leave my hair feeling so soft and the color lasts for a really long time.Thank you for sharing!

- Well...I am punk. My hair has been blue, green, purple, orange, bright red, and hot pink. I think my favorite is touchs and tips of the pink. My hubby has had me do his black hair with the blue dye since he's gotten so much grey - so it only really shows on the grey - covers it rather well actually. LOL. Great lens, thanks for the Koolaid instructions.

- LOL! Blue may be my favorite color, but I have never considered it for my hair. I think I would have to go with the wig! I fear the damage I could do otherwise. This is a really fun lens and look at blue hair.
