The gentleman playing in the video is Kirk Lorange. Kirk lives in Australia, and I ran across him in one of my endless searches for good blues guitar material. I am very impressed with this song, named "Changes." Be careful listening to this - it is guaranteed to give you an ear worm." I have listened to it a lot, and it is just one of those songs you can't get out of your head.
Kirk doesn't play the circuit much any more, instead focusing on teaching. The song is based on one of the endless jam tracks that you find all over the internet, and the interesting thing about this particular track is that it makes many :changes" in octave - hence the name of the song, "Changes." Check this out, and I am sure you will agree with me that this is some really bad-ass slide work!
I was turned on to this kid by Claude Johnson. He is young, and a bit full of himself, and doesn't quite have that edgy blues feel down yet, but is very good for his age. You can never be too young to play the blues, I suppose.. This is an impromptu gig with his band The Caples. The vid isn't the best, but it was shot with his cell phone, so you cna't expect a lot....
Sol Philcox - 'Blues Deluxe'
jus a little jam with my rad band 'the caples' running through the classic blues deluxe. ignore the bb king comment at the beginning, i was being a right mongtard, i know he didn't do this.
excuse the repetitiveness of the licks and lack of phrasing and taste, I haven't played blues in months and was just trying to re-learn all my licks and stuff. apologies for the unnecessarily long into too, was recorded straight off my phone.
SRV has been the biggest influence on me and my music since the 90's. I was sitting on my patio in the dark with my trusty glass of good Canadian when the news came over the radio about Stevie's death. For the rest of the night, they played his tunes.
There are other more influential bluesmen than Stevie, but I think none of them had his skill. When he recorded Riviera Paradise, he went into the studio and did it all in one pass. Try that one!
Stevie may be gone now, but his music lives on. I was told when I picked up the guitar that you need to listen to the best to learn how to play. I believe that. Stevie is truly my guitar hero. My choice of guitar is the Fender Strat, because it is what Stevie played. (He did play others.) Every time I pick it up and see the Fender logo, I think of Stevie. There isn't a better tribute ot an excellent blue guitar player than that...
If you have been around blues music for very long, you know about the legendary rock band ZZ Top. I have been a big fan for a lot of years, and am impressed deeply with their guitar work. Here, Billy Gibbons gives us a private lesson in blues licks. Take advantage and learn from a master...
"...Stevie was right here with me, studying me as I studied the music. That's how we both learned to play. Off the records. No reading, no writing, no training. All by ear."
- Jimmie Vaughan on Being Born Into The Blues
A 12 Bar Blues Riff
Get yer blues on...
This is done in the 1-4-5 rhythm. A lot of blues licks use a 12 bar blues rhythm. 12 bar means that there are 12 measures to the bar, so here the variation is on 1-4-5 in the key of A. It's a simple lick that can be built on easily.

I hope you enjoy my lens. I have a deep interest in natural herbal remedies. Because of my age, I can remember a time when they were the rule, not the exception.
