Welcome to my Squidoo Lensography Page

This page is my Lensography - it is an organized collection of my Squidoo Lenses. All of my lenses are focused on reviews of cosmetics, makeup, perfume, and bath and body items.

I love to write reviews at makeupalley.com - my reviews are honest, insightful and informative. I review the products that I buy for my own personal needs and desires, out of my own pocket. I have written many reviews at makeupalley but here I have more room to write reviews that are more concise, and with this I can include pictures as well.

This promises to be the most fun and adventurous squidoo lens series that I have ever created. Here in this Lensography you can see the latest squidoo lenses that I've created in this series of Cosmetics Reviews, complete with ratings and ingredients information for each product. Enjoy!

About Me

Why I Enjoy Reading and Writing Makeup Reviews
I enjoy reading makeup reviews because for me there is nothing better than being armed with knowledge, so that I can make the right choices when it comes to beauty, health, skin care, and hair care too. I enjoy reading reviews that explain the positive and negatives of a product without being biased.

I like to write clear and concise reviews that explain what product that I am reviewing, in detail so that you can not only enjoy the experience of reading each review, but you are also taken along with me for the journey and experience of using each item. My reviews and ratings are so much more than product analysis - they are an overall view of cost vs. benefit, and the way that a product performs, from a personal point of view.

Along with this, I explain the texture of the product, the feel of it while using and wearing it, the scent, the application and the length of wear, the results, various other useful bits of information - and also I list the ingredients of the items that i review when they are available for me to post. At the end of each review I like to give a "Final Verdict" which is an overall view of the product cost and the performance, in brief.

About my Heart Rating System
Included with all of this are a Heart Rating system, 5 Hearts being the best and 0 Hearts being the worst. I base my Heart Ratings on the overall experience of using the product, combined with product packaging, ease of use, and benefits.

There are many things that I take into consideration before giving the final Heart Rating for each item that I review. I chose the symbol of the heart because I love my makeup and so I wanted to symbolize that with the natural association of the image of the heart. I also believe that a rating system is a fair way to rate after a product has been reviewed. It provides information at a glance.

I love to review makeup items and I have been reviewing them online for quite a while. I have been using makeup for many years and I enjoy the benefits of looking good and feeling great because of it. While i am not brand specific, I do seek quality in the brands that I purchase, and I like to experiment too. I love fun concepts with makeup, hair and nails, but there are times when I enjoy a natural look as well. Enjoy reading my reviews, and remember that you can find my profile at makeupalley.com, where i also give brief reviews of many different makeup items as well!

And if that weren't enough, you are welcome to visit my blog, Venus Beauty, where I explore beauty from the inside out. It's got a growing audience of women from all over the world that love to read my articles and participate in comments, too.

Blushes and Bronzers

This lens package shows all of the reviews that I have done for the blusher and bronzer products that I have reviewed. Blusher and bronzer is an essential cosmetic tool, and it allows you to define, shape and add color to the cheeks and the body. It can be used to disguise imperfections and it can also be used to enhance one's own natural beauty. I have reviewed many different kinds of blushes and bronzers, everything from dollar store items up to high-end merchandise.

Blusher comes in pressed and loose powder form, stains, liquids, creams, and mousses. It is intended to give a rosy glow to the cheekbones, similar to the way that skin becomes naturally blushed. Blush has been popular for many, many years and it gives a nice and natural look, ading that splash of color to the cheeks that helps to define the cheekbones, while complimenting skin tone. Blush has experienced many different popular styles over the years, everything from natural and nude looks, to the wildly popular streaky-styled blushes of the 80's.

Bronzer is a tool to define the skin in certain areas, giving a dewy sun kissed glow to the skin year-round. Bronzer typically comes in pressed and loose powder, cream, and mousse form. Bronzer has gained in popularity over the past 10 years, ever since tanning beds have come into style, and since people are looking for that sun-kissed glow no matter what time of season it is. Bronzers are different than self tanning cremes and sprays in that they are usually applied by hand and are complimentary to tanning products, adding a more defined look where definition is wanted, anywhere on the body.

Eyeshadows, Eyeliners, Mascaras

This lens package shows all of the reviews that I have done for various eye makeup products that I have tried. Come and explore the reviews that I have created on eye shadows, Eyeliners and Mascaras, complete from dollar store brands to high-end merchandise.

Mascara can lengthen, define, and make the eye appear open and wider. Eyeliner comes in pencil form, or as a push-up pencil, or even as a liquid or in a pot, to be used with a eyeliner brush. They add definition and form to the eye, creating a unique or subtle look depending on the color and application style. Mascaras began long ago as a pot-style application with a brush included, and had graduated into the tube style mascaras that we all know and love that we use today. Most mascaras come in a tube form with different style applicators, performing various different effects according to their formulas and brush style.

Eye Shadow can create a subtle or dramatic look depending on how it is worn. For centuries, women have used this basic beauty tool to define and enhance the eye. Early eye shadows were created out of minerals and stones that were finely ground, and some of them were dangerous to use as they contained lead and other materials that we now know are dangerous. Modern eye shadows are very safe to use and can be found in a variety of shades and looks, depending on what style of look that you want to create.

Eyeliner has been used for centuries by royalty and common folk alike. Eyeliner can create a smoky and sultry look, or it can be light, shimmery and playful. Most eyeliners come in tube or pencil form, but some can be found in a gel formula and it is applied with a skillful hand by using an angled brush. Eyeliners can be subtle or dramatic, and the look that they impart widen the eye and define it's shape. Enjoy these reviews!

Foundations, Liquids and Creams

A foundation, whether in liquid, cream or mousse, becomes the canvas upon which your makeup is placed. It provides a smooth tone and an even surface. the right foundation can make your face look so beautiful, but the wrong foundation match can throw your whole look off. Explore the reviews for these items here - everything from dollar store foundations to high end merchandise.

Foundation is a recent invention of the last century. It first started out as a cake form, where water was added and it layered on thick. This was the beginning of the pancake foundation look, first created by Max Factor. In fact, Max Factor still creates this makeup in it's original form. Nowadays, foundation can be found in many different forms. From powders that glide on like silk and help to set foundation and keep skin from shining, to liquids, creams, mousses and gels that blend seamlessly with the skin. Foundations today come in many forms, and some of them now include minerals and vitamins and sunscreen that actually benefit the skin and restore it, too.

Depending on the style of foundation that is being used, foundations are applied by hand or they are applied with a brush. Blending is key to using these products, where the foundation and natural skin meet and there is no lines to be seen. This creates the best look for foundation, where it looks natural and just applied. Foundation can be applied with a brush too, using a stippling technique just like painters use, and depending on the formula, a foundation brush can be used as well to apply foundation to the skin. Foundation is most often worn on the skin of the face, the neck and the decolletage area [the upper chest, where the bust-line starts] to disguise imperfections, to hide blotchiness or dark spots, and to give a flawless canvass to apply other makeups too. While you can wear makeup without using foundation, you might be better off using it if you want to create that fresh flawless look.

Lipstick, Lip Stains, Glosses

Lipsticks, Lip Stains and Lip Glosses can be a beautiful touch. It can add form and dimension and change your whole look, or it can be very natural and subtle. Lip color can add sparkle and shine to your lips or create a smooth and creamy beautiful Matte finish. Come and explore these reviews for Lipstick, Lip Stains, Glosses, and Lip Pencils

Lipsticks began long ago as berries and other items with bright, vivid colors that women used to color their lips by staining them. Over time, lipsticks were developed, some of them in pots and containers, and finally in stick form. Lipsticks can help to define the lips and make them look kissable. They can be the defining statement in a makeup look, or they can be nude and natural, allowing the eyes to be the defining statement. Nowadays you can find lipstick in a variety of colors and formulas, some of them designed to give a matte or cream look, shimmer and pearl look, and some of them with fine glitter in a lip gloss style application.

Lip liners, most often found in stick formula, applied with a pencil, or pot formula applied with a brush can be found right along side lipsticks, most of them matching lipstick colors. Lip liners help to fill in lips where nature left off, adding a thicker more defined look to lips with lines of age in them, or creating a new lip shape all together. Lip liners also prevent lipstick from 'bleeding' into lip lines and help to hold lipstick in their place.

Gels and glosses are often found in pot form, or in a tube and wand style application. They add shine, gloss and definition to lips. No longer just for teens and young women who are experimenting with makeup - these items can be found right along side lipsticks and are used by many different types of women, young and old alike. Lip glosses add color and shine without the time that it takes to prepare lips for wearing lipstick.

Some glosses purposely impart a plumping look to the lips by including ingredients that irritate the lips and create a fuller look. Despite how that sounds, its wildly popular and has no damaging effects and the plumped lip look that one gets by applying a gloss is much less expensive than cosmetic procedures. The downside to this is that some formulas can desensitize lips so that the formula no longer works as it once had when one begins applying them - and they can be quite pricey, such as one brand that offers their lip plumper at 20$ for a half-ounce of their formula!

Nail Laquer - Nail Polish

Nail Lacquer of every style and variety to behold. Nail Lacquer can be the finishing touch for any look. It can be clean and pure like a french manicure, or it can be dark and gothy like the black nail trend. Come and explore the variety of nail lacquer in these reviews.

Nail polishes started out as berries and other materials that would stain the nails. In the last century, though they appeared on store shelves in many different styles of formulas, some of them that carried dangerous ingredients in them such as formaldehyde. The chemicals in them imparted shine and improved their wearability, but over time companies who were consumer-conscious changed their formulas and stopped including these dangerous chemicals all together.

Now you can find nail color in just about any color that you can imagine. Some nail color trends change with the seasons, bringing light and airy colors to store shelves and finger tips in the spring and summer months, and dark and bold tones for winter. Prices for these items of beauty range from a dollar all the way up to 30$ or even more, just for an ounce of the formula. Brush and bottle shape affect performance of the item as it is applied.

Masques, Face Washes, Toners

These are the goods that help to keep your face (your canvas!) in shape. From masques that purify and cleanse, to face washes that restore and purify, to toners that clean excess dirt and makeup, you can find all of these reviews here.

Masques aren't just a hot item to be found and applied at spas. You can create your own spa experience at home by finding the right products to help to tone, purify and firm your skin. They are easy to apply and are easy to use. A weekly regimen of some kind of mud facial, or AHA product can help to tone your skin and make it more beautiful and resilient, and it will also purify your skin by removing comeogenic oils and dirt from your pores. While some masques and toners promise to shrink pores, none of them will deliver as promised. Large pores are largely a product of genetics, but having dirt and oil removed from your pores will help to tone your skin and make pores appear smaller by removing the dirt and oil that leaves pores enlarged and darkened.

Lotions, Soaps, Oils and Perfumes

Enjoy these reviews of skin lotions, scented oils and scented soaps. A scented soap or aromatic oil can do so much more than clean or provide aroma. It can awaken your senses, invigorate you, relax you or fulfill your heart. Scent can reassure you or put you into a romantic mood. Oh what a beautiful Scent can do!

Lotions can help to moisturize and tone the skin. Some lotions contain ingredients that aren't so pure and aren't really good for your skin but women use them anyway! And some lotions can be very beneficial, adding beauty and resiliency to the skin as they are used on a regular basis. Bath oils are used much in the same way, as they help to tone the skin and refine it, and hold moisture in when they are applied right after a bath.

Scented soaps can be an awakening experience. A recent trend in soaps are formulas that are SLS free [sodium laureth sulfate]. While SLS helps a soap to foam easily and gives a frothy lather, some have found them to be drying or even irritant to the skin, and some reports say that they are known carcinogens. While we have been using SLS in our soaps for almost a half century, these new brands are coming out every day as we are becoming more conscious about what we put in our bodies and on our skin. You can now find SLS soaps in any soap aisle. The choice to use SLS is a personal choice, but at least nowadays we have SLS free products for us to enjoy.
