Why not try a board game to keep you from getting bored?
Board games were extremely popular when I was growing up and they continue to be a standard in spite of all those electronic video games. I personally don't play video or online games, but love to reach for our Monopoly or Scrabble board games when we have some extra time.
This lens takes a good look at what cool CLASSIC board games you might want to consider. Remember board games are great in case your batteries run out or maybe you lose power for an extended period of time!

I love board games and card games. I think it is because when you play, you play together. Computer games are isolating and often violent. Though my great-aunt could play a violent game of checkers if she was losing.:)

I definitely prefer board games (or cards) to computer games (which is weird, because I'm a kind of a computer geek....) I think it's for the same reason you said, Julie-- for the interaction.

Aside from the occasional game of video poker or Star Wars game on the XBox my husband and his family just play boardgames. I play with them- much easier to figure out where to move your pawn than to figure out thumb sticks, and it's more sociable too. In fact, we often "improve" on the rules to the games we have!

While I might once in a while partake in a computer or video game, I much prefer the interaction with family and friends while playing a classic board game!

Cranium FAQs
Cranium is a party board game based on Ludo. Whit Alexander and Richard Tait created Cranium in 1992 after Richard spent a weekend playing games with another family and recognized the need for a game involving a variety of skills. He left his job at Microsoft, convincing friend and co-worker Whit Alexander to join him in the creation of Cranium. Cranium is manufactured by Hasbro subsidiary Cranium, Inc. Cranium is billed as "The Game for Your Whole Brain." Unlike many other party games, Cranium includes a wide variety of activities.
Dave Edelstein of Foundation Design created the packaging and brand identity for the game, and Gary Baseman, creator of the animated series Teacher's Pet'', did the art.

Backgammon Board Games
Backgammon FAQs
Backgammon is a board game for two players in which the playing pieces are moved according to the roll of dice. A player wins by removing all of his pieces from the board. There are many variants of backgammon, most of which share common traits. Backgammon is a member of the tables family, one of the oldest classes of board games in the world.
Although luck plays an important role, there is a large scope for strategy. With each roll of the dice a player must choose from numerous options for moving his checkers and anticipate possible counter-moves by the opponent. Players may raise the stakes during the game. There is an established repertory of common tactics and occurrences.
Like chess, backgammon has been studied with great interest by computer scientists. Owing to this research, backgammon software has been developed capable of beating world-class human players.

What was your favorite board game growing up? How about today? Do you still play any board games?

I remember playing board games with family, and being bored stiff while waiting for them to take their turn. Someone would have to get a drink when it was their turn, or use the bathroom, or take forever to decide what move to make, or would need a constant reminder that it was their turn, or would knock the board and the pieces would slide across it, and so forth. Honestly, I hated playing board games! Give me a word puzzle book and a quiet corner, then I'll be happy.
