Quality Time Together Over A Board Game
When our Aggravation board got messed up my Dad made us one out of a piece of plywood by drilling in the holes. We loved to play and compete to be the first one to get all our marbles home first, while along the way killing off our opponents marbles and sending them home to start all over again.
We also played other games like Spades, Hearts, and 500 Rummy. We would do this instead of watching TV. We had a good time, laughing, cutting up, and giving each other a bad time or gloating if winning. We all did it so no one got left out. Little ones just got lightly teased and comforted with the knowledge they would learn and become better as they learned more. Had to do it since they always got slaughtered unless a parent helped them along.
Get some board games and turn off the computer, game consoles, MP3 or Ipod, and the TV. Join the family and don't just do isolated entertainment for one.

Perquackey - Not A Board Game But Fun
Since I mentioned the Perquackey GameWhat it is:
It is a spelling game.
What is included:
10 Cubes with letters in black
3 Cubes with letters in Red
Shaker cup for the cubes,
3 minute timer
Instruction book with the scoring details posted on the page with how bonuses are scored.
An absolute necessity is a dictionary. Preferably a newer version with current words listed. There are about a million words in the English language. We also used my computer dictionary and in the event of a dispute also used the computer for the most up to date usages and spellings.
The object of the game is to get to 5000 points before your opponent(s). This is done by completing 5 three letter words, four letter words, five letter words, six letter words and so on. Completing 2 sets of 5 in a row gives you a point bonus and for each additional 5 words in a section you will get another bonus, you can also get individual scores for one to four words in a row.
Sometimes you get a throw of letters so bad you cannot complete even your first row of three letter words. We added our own rule to the games rules, on initial throw of the cubes, if you got 6 vowels in any throw you would get to throw again. This is not in the rules, but made it better for us and applied to everyone.
The more you play the better you get. It also improves your vocabulary when playing with other people who know different words than you do.
Try it out, it's a lot of fun and a game can be done in about 30 minutes.
We used a battery operated timer that beeped when times was up. We'd get caught up in the game and realize the time had run out and the person was still making words. Bummer if it wasn't you getting the extra time.
What is Blokus?
A Strategy Board Game
Blokus The game pieces are translucent colored tiles in red, yellow, blue and green. The pieces are groups of up to 5 tiles connected together in different configurations. Each player will receive 100 tiles joined in various designs and will use these in play.
How to Play
To begin play each person will place one of their pieces in the corner of the board closest to them. Each piece they play in turn after the corner tile will have to be placed touching only the corner of their last piece. The object of the game is to play all of your pieces before your opponent does or until you can no longer play a game piece.
You will all be trying to block your opponent from placing all their tiles before you do.
Score: Tiles left in your possession at the end of play count as one point for each square, not each piece. The person with the lowest number of tiles at the end is the winner.
See the video below to see an example of play.

Apples to Apples
A Game of Funny Answers
A game that gets a recommendation and award from Mensa is something. I thought you'd have to have lots of smarts to play this game. Not so.This is a game of word association.
Players are dealt 7 red cards with nouns printed on them, then the judge selects a green card and turns it up for the player to see.
Each play will then select the noun they feel most matches the adjective.
The judge will shuffle or mix up the selection of cards and pick the best match from one of the players.
This is how points are earned, the player who wins gets to keep the green adjective card to collect their point.
Each player is dealt an additional red card to make the total in their hand 7 again.
The position of judge rotates after each hand. This gives everyone a chance to make their pick of best match.
The fun comes in when the choices from each hand are played against the adjective. They will not make any sense at all in some cases or a player might pick a noun to be funny with the adjective or someone may not pick a noun anyone else would associate with the word at all.

Scrabble Flash Cubes
Top New Game
Scrabble Flash is a more modern and compact version of the original Scabble game. This game can be played by people of all spelling and word skill levels. What I like about Scrabble is the word building effect while you play. Trying to think of a word and puzzle out where to play your tiles on the board for the most points is both educational and entertaining. This game is designed for players 8 years and up. There is no board with this game. You get 5 battery operated and lighted cubes with letters you will shuffle around to make as many words as possible in 75 seconds. The tiles will keep track of your score and when pressed together help you make words.
The tiles can then be passed to the next player who tries to make words. If a player does not make any words they are elimenated from further play.
Younger players can do the same thing, only using 4 tiles instead of 5.
Scrabble Flash Cubes
Batteries are included with the game to get you started, along with the cubes and instruction booklet.
