Boardwalk Empire Series

I expected a lot from this, I really did. Ever since I saw the first teaser and the trailers after that, I marked Septemeber 19th in my calendar. As a mafia/gangster movie fan I sure was not going to miss a show that Martin Scorsese directed for HBO with Steve Buscemi being the male lead. And let us not forget people responsible for Sopranos are the writer here. But the trouble with such high expectation is that they might let you down. It happened to me with Boardwalk Empire.

I am not saying the show is bad, don't misunderstand me. The show sure has it's moment, but the first episode was missing something extra. Something, that would make it great. Buscemi was good and Michael Pitt was good as well, but they were not great.

The story begins a day before the prohibition kicks in and it is happening in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Enoch "Nucky" Thompson is a county treasurer, a popular local politician and a convincing anti-liquor fighter during the day, but at night he changes into a liquor smuggler and the leader of the Atlantic City gangsters. Well, the transformation really is not that dramatic, because ... you know ... I saw the trailer of Boardwalk Empire and was expecting it ;) Michael Pitt is Jimmy Darmody, Thompson's driver and his protege, that had just returned home from the war and is hoping to get a more important job than just being the driver.

I'm not going to reveal any more information about the show, because there has been only one episode and I am sure there are still many of you that have not watched it yet. I would not want to spoil it for you. The first episode of Boardwalk Empire was a bit slow for me and it left me a bit cold, but it also left me wanting more. I will certainly tune in for new episodes because you just don't get to watch a Scorsese/Buscemi/HBO collaboration all that often.
