Choosing the Best Boat Cover

 

People spend absolutely ages choosing a boat, but usually only minutes picking out a cover, then, a few months later they wonder why their pride and joy is not looking quite so lovely and is it used to.

Buying a good boat cover is by far the most important thing you can do to protect your investment, but finding out what's best is not necessarily easy.

I have been researching this recently, and after a lot of work managed to find some good information.  I'll share some tips here, and link to the best resources.

 

Moisture Is The Worst Enemy 

You need to be sure that any water in your boat can escape, and also that no more can get in. Some covers only offer one of these two features, so be careful. If you read this page about canvas, you will see just how careful you have to be.

UV Rays From The Sun Hurt Lots 

After water, this is another major source of harm. Some materials are particularly good at looking UV, Sunbrella for example. (More details here)

If It Doesn't Fit, You Are Wasting Your Time! 

What's the point of using a cover if you leave gaps? This seems obvious, but quite a large proportion of people use covers that do not fit properly. Custom fit covers cost more, that at least they work! If you're not convinced that this is an important requirement, you simply MUST read this page about custom fit boat covers.
