A View From the Waterfront - Get Out on the Water

Alan Sorum is Manger of the Municipality of Skagway, one of the busiest cruise ship ports in Alaska. Alan is the immediate past Port Director and Harbormaster for the City of Valdez, Alaska. Valdez Small Boat Harbor has just over 500 slips and routinely handles 1,000 commercial fishing and recreational vessels in the peak season. Valdez is the primary access point to Prince William Sound for interior Alaska.

Boating is a way of life here in coastal Alaska. Alan holds a Coast Guard Masters License, and is involved with commercial and recreational boating, kayaking and rafting. He also serves as a relief skipper on a commercial vessel under contract for emergency oil spill response in Prince William Sound. A person can never have too many boats here!
