Bob Dylan Biography

Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman May 24, 1941, Duluth, Minnesota, USA) is widely regarded as America's greatest living popular songwriter.

Bob Dylan and Sara Lowndes (married in 1965 and divorced in 1977) had four children together: Jesse, Anna, Samuel, and Jakob. (Dylan also adopted Lowndes daughter, Maria, from a previous marriage).

Instruments: Vocals, Keyboards, Piano, Harmonica, Guitar.

Influenced by the work of early rock stars like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis,
and Little Richard Dylan formed his own bands (The Golden Chords and Elston Gunn and His Rock Boppers).

While attending the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, he started performing folk and country songs at local cafés. He took the name "Bob Dylan," after the late Welsh poet Dylan Thomas.

Bob Dylan Music CD's - Essential Bob Dylan

An introduction to the songs of Bob Dylan

Two discs of music don't exactly provide for a thorough overview of four decades of recording, particularly if the subject of the retrospective is one of the most important and prolific performers of his time.

So The Essential Bob Dylan definitely skates over the leagues-deep oeuvre of Dylan, summarizing his monumental first half-dozen years in disc one and skirting over the following 34 years in disc two. Delving into Columbia's three Dylan greatest-hits packages (though curiously purging "I Want You," a genuine hit single in its day), Essential offers only a few surprises, opting for The Basement Tapes version of "Quinn the Eskimo" over the Self Portrait remake that made it onto Greatest Hits Volume II and tossing in "Things Have Changed" from the Wonder Boys soundtrack for completists. But this 30-track overview is designed with newcomers, not Dylanologists, in mind. --Steven Stolder

Bob Dylan and Catman Cohen

Catman Cohen and Bob Dylan have to my knowledge never met, but Catman Cohen was influenced among other, by Bob Dylena. Cohen's songs have been described as "Rock n' Roll Theater." The Catman's unmistakable bullfrog voice is a mixtuere of Barry White and the famous Louis Armstrong. His musical influences have included Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Bruce Springsteen, and Elton John.

Catman Cohen mission was to create music with a message and thereby to shift the focus from artist to the songs content. He had decided that a single silhouette photo was to be his only tangible form of personal publicity. His known biography is ketchy and short.
