Happy Birthday Robert Zimmerman! Bob Dylan Turns 71

Ranked #539 in Music, #12,090 overall

Let's Celebrate! Bob Dylan's 71st Birthday Is May 24, 2012

Hard to believe but Bob Dylan turns 71 years old this year! Though I wish I could celebrate Dylan's birthday with him, I didn't make the invitation list...so I decided to have some fun on my own. I've set up this site for all of us to share our memories and experiences, opinions, favorite songs and albums, books, websites and so on in honor of the anniversary of Bob's birth. There are also some humorous YouTube videos to enjoy!

In our unconventional, rv lifestyle, nothing makes it more perfect than filling the rv with Bob's sound. Talk about relaxing!!

Here's a short bio of the birthday boy: Robert Allen Zimmerman was born to Abe and Beatty Zimmerman in St. Mary's Hospital on May 24, 1941, in Duluth, Minnesota. He was raised in Hibbing, Minnesota, and began attending the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in 1959, where he started calling himself Bob Dylan.

He traveled to New York in the early sixties, where he quickly made his mark on the folk scene and was signed to Columbia Records. Over fifty years later, Bob Dylan has maintained his status as a musical icon. Even at his age, he is still a big concert draw and the "Never Ending Tour" continues.

So let's have some fun in honor of Bob's 70th - hope you'll join in the discussions that follow below!

Should The NEVER ENDING TOUR Truly Never End?

Share Your Opinion Here

In December, 2010, the Wall Street Journal Published This Article. While the general subject was baby boomer rock stars, the article specifically asks if Dylan should "hang up his hat" and stop touring. Recently, there has also been a lot of criticism on how Bob's vocals are sounding during a performance. But I'd rather he keep on going (I am inspired that he is still touring, actually!) instead of accepting a world without Dylan in it...how about you?

Should Bob Dylan Quit Touring? Why or Why Not?

Loading

Yes, Bob Dylan Should Quit Touring

No, Bob Dylan Should NOT QUIT Touring

TheMummyNextDoor says:

Well, I keep seeing him... I suppose if he stopped touring it could save me some money! ;) It's kind of down to him though isn't it?

JJNW says:

NO! JUST BECAUSE! lol

Angee says:

Bob Dylan should Definately Not Quit Touring.
Bob Dylan should Definately Keep Touring,
and we'll keep on growing with him ;

Angee says:

Definately, things evolve for good here, and if I want to hear the, "Bob Dylan's voice I know", then I am sure i can find a recording of it somewhere... I'd rather feel the energy of Bob Dylan today, I've matured too ; and still turn it up!.

Chris-H says:

Quit? I thought Bob Dylan was an immortal. No, when the time comes he should sing at his own wake.

nadjaiskeniskie says:

Gawd no. Touring is what he does.

AshleeCraft says:

No way! As long as he wants to keep doing it, he should keep doing it!

aj2008 says:

Why should he quit touring? As long he can sing I dont care how old he is!!

mountaincabinmercantile says:

No, Never! Like fine wine, he ages gracefully...

Did Dylan Sell Out When He Made Commercials?

YES, Bob Sold Out

mountaincabinmercantile says:

Yup...there's no way around it...

NO, Bob Did NOT Sell Out

TheMummyNextDoor says:

Hell, I'd do anything for that sort of money, stop being so idealist! I suppose I would draw the line at McDonalds x

oop says:

This is the equivalent of Dylan's mid life crises. He doesn't buy a new car and date a supermodel, he appears in commercials with them

JJNW says:

Bob Dylan is way beyond selling out. A legend, 70 years old --- he just rocks no matter what he does!

Did Bob Dylan Write "Stuck In The Middle With You?"

NO - Did You Think Dylan Wrote Songs That He Actually Didn't?

Bob didn't write "Stuck In The Middle With You" (Gerry Rafferty did), but he did write a song titled "Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again." Maybe that is where the confusion lies? Some modern performers cover songs that people think are "new," when Bob actually wrote them, such as Garth Brooks "To Make You Feel My Love" which Dylan wrote and it is on his Time Out Of Mind CD.

DID YOU EVER THINK DYLAN WROTE A SONG WHEN ACTUALLY SOMEONE ELSE DID?" LIST IT HERE!!
