Bob Ross made painting fun and simple

Although I never tried to paint, I always loved watching Bob Ross painting his "happy little trees" and creating beautiful landscape paintings.  His show used to be on our local PBS station on Saturdays and I would usually watch it more often than not.

He made everything look so easy that I truly believed if I went out and bought a paint set and canvas that, I too, could create such a painting.  Well, I never tried and Bob Ross died on the 4th of July back in 1995.  Man, he was only 52.

Check out the neat Bob Ross t-shirts and vote on the Bob Ross quotes and remember a guy that made painting fun.

The Joy of Painting

The Joy of Painting originally aired from 1983 through 1995. I didn't remember it, but each episode contained to half-hour segments where Bob showed us how to paint two different landscapes.

Man, he seemed to paint so quickly and I liked that he used the wet-on-wet technique of not waiting for each layer of paint to dry. That was always a put off to me in terms of the time it would take to paint something.

However, the best part (in my modest opinion) was the ongoing conversation that Bob Ross had with the viewer as he skillfully sculpted this amazing landscape painting. He would add some "happy little trees" here or "fluffy little clouds" there. Sometimes the trees, mountains, or clouds might need a "happy little friend nearby."

Best of The Joy of Painting still airs on our local PBS channel on Saturday mornings. I believe it is still syndicated across most (if not all) PBS stations.

Favorite Bob Ross Quotes

Like I have stated earlier, the best part of the show was just listening to Bob talk. That guy could talk about amortization tables or quantum physics and I would be mesmerized.

I would record all Bob Ross TV shows and paint the picture later so that I could rewind as needed. He was very relaxing to listen to and made me enjoy the love of painting.

I never realized that so many loved Bob's show as much as I did. He was every bit as mesmerizing as Shelby Foote ("The Civil War") and Carl Sagan ("Cosmos") were in their fields.....and all on PBS!

Born and raised in Michigan - the Great Lakes State.  I love how easy it is to set up a lens at Squidoo.  I get so many ideas for new lenses that I keep a notebook with me so I can jot down my ideas before I forget them.

I have been running businesses on the internet for the past several years and building lenses at Squidoo is the most fun I have had.  It allows me to be creative and share fun topics without the worries of SEO.

Squidoo is like the line from the movie Field of Dreams which I will paraphrase here, "If you build a quality lens, people will come."
