Bob Seger's Music

I was one of Bob Seger's biggest fans in the 70's and 80's. I think I owned every album he recorded at one time. While my love for music has grown and changed, I still love listening to his music.

A bit of history...

Bob Seger's full name is Robert Clark Seger. He was born on May 6, 1945 and spent most of his younger years in Detroit, Michigan. He first started out in the 1960's calling himself "The Bob Seger System". Artists that inspired him included Little Richard, Elvis Presley and James Brown. In his early years, he played with The Decibels, The Town Criers and Doug Brown and the Omens.

Seger's first big hit in Detroit was "East Side Story", in 1966 which sold approximately 50,000 copies. He signed with Capitol Records in 1968 where he formed the Bob Seger System. His 1st nation hit was "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" which reached number 17 in the charts.

In the early 70's, Bob Seger released a couple of albums that barely made the top 100, Smokin O.P.'s and Back in '72. The Silver Bullet Band came into the picture in 1974. Original band members were Drew Abbot on guitar, Charlie Allen Martin on drums and back up singer, Rick Mannassa on Keyboard, Chris Campbell on bass guitar and Alto Reed on saxophone.

Cause I was born lonely down by the riverside
Learned to spin fortune wheels, and throw dice
And I was just thirteen when I had to leave home
Knew I couldn't stick around, I had to roam
Ain't good looking, but you know I ain't shy
Ain't afraid to look it girl, hear me out

So if you need some lovin, and you need it right away
Take a little time out, and maybe I'll stay
But I got to ramble (ramblin' man)
Oh I got to gamble (gamblin' man)
Got to got to ramble (ramblin' man)
I was born a ramblin' gamblin' man
Yeah yeah yeah

Yeah alright here we go now now

Gotta keep moving, never gonna slow down

If that mockingbird don't sing
She gonna buy you a diamond ring
If that diamond ring don't shine
Baby gonna take it to a private eye
If that private eye can't see
He gonna have to come an talk to me

Said hey Bo Diddley
Hey now Bo Diddley
Hey Bo Diddley

I walked 47 miles of barbed wire
Use a cobra snake for a necktie
Got a brand new house on the roadside child
Made out of rattlesnake hide
Brand new chimney on top
Made out of human skulls
Come and take a little walk with me Arlene
Tell me who do you love
Who do you love
Who do you love
Who do you love

Arlene took me by my hand
Said cool it Robert you know your my man
Who do you love
Who do you love
Who do you love

Night was dark the sky was blue
Down the alley we was swingin' through

Lord I heard just what I seen
Who do you love
Who do you love
Who do you love

Bob Seger - Katmandu Lyrics

I Think I'm Going To Katmandu,
That's Really, Really Where I'm Going To.
If I Ever Get Out Of Here,
That's What I'm Gonna Do.
K-K-K-K-K-Katmandu,
I Think That's Where I'm Going To.
If I Ever Get Out Of Here,
I'm Going To Katmandu.

I Got No Kick Against The West Coast
Warner Brothers Are Such Good Hosts.
I Raise My Whiskey Glass And Give Them A Toast,
I'm Sure They Know It's True.
I Got No Rap Against The Southern States.
Every Time I've Been There It's Been Great.
But Now I'm Leaving And I Can't Be Late
And To Myself Be True.

That's Why I'm Going To Katmandu,
Up To The Mountains Where I'm Going To,
And If I Ever Get Out Of Here That's What I'm Gonna Do.
K - K - K - K - K - Katmandu,
That's Really, Really Where I'm Going To,
Oh, If I Ever Get Out Of Here I'm Going To Katmandu.

I Got No Quarrel With The Midwest,
The Folks Out There Have Given Me Thier Best.
I Lived There All My Life, I've Been Thier Guest,
I Sure Have Loved It, Too.
I'm Tired Of Looking At The T.V. News.
I'm Tired Of Driving Hard And Paying Dues.
I Figure, Baby, I've Got Nothing To Lose,
I'm Tired Of Being Blue.

That's Why I'm Going To Katmandu,
Up To The Mountains Where I'm Going To.
If I Ever Get Out Of Here That's What I'm Gonna Do.
K - K - K - K - K - Katmandu,
Take Me, Baby, 'cause I'm Going With You.
If I Ever Get Out Of Here I'm Going To Katmandu.

I Ain't Got Nothing 'gainst The East Coast.
You Want Some People Where They Got The Most.
And New York City's Like A Friendly Ghost,
You Seem To Pass Right Through.
I Know I'm Gonna Miss The U.S.A.,
I Guess I'll Miss It Every Single Day,
But No One Loves Me Here Anyway,
I Know My Playing Is Through.

That's Why I'm Going To Katmandu,
Up To The Mountains Where I'm Going To.
If I Ever Get Out Of Here,
That's What I'm Gonna Do.

K-K-K-K-K-Katmandu,
Really, Really Going To,
If I Ever Get Out Of Here,
If I Ever Get Out Of Here,
If I Ever Get Out Of Here,
I'm Going To Katmandu./p

Bob Seger - Turn The Page Lyrics

On a long and lonesome highway
east of Omaha
You can listen to the engine
moanin' out his one note song
You can think about the woman
or the girl you knew the night before
But your thoughts will soon be wandering
the way they always do
When you're ridin' sixteen hours
and there's nothin' much to do
And you don't feel much like ridin',
you just wish the trip was through

Here I am
On the road again
There I am
Up on the stage
Here I go

Well you walk into a restaurant,
strung out from the road
And you feel the eyes upon you
as you're shakin' off the cold
You pretend it doesn't bother you

but you just want to explode
Most times you can't hear 'em talk,
other times you can
All the same old cliches,
"Is that a woman or a man?"
And you always seem outnumbered,
you don't dare make a stand

Here I am
On the road again
There I am
Up on the stage
Here I go
Playin' star again
There I go
Turn the page

Out there in the spotlight
you're a million miles away
Every ounce of energy
you try to give away
As the sweat pours out your body
like the music that you play
Later in the evening
as you lie awake in bed
With the echoes from the amplifiers
ringin' in your head
You smoke the day's last cigarette,
rememberin' what she said

Here I am
On the road again
There I am
Up on the stage
Here I go
Playin' star again
There I go
Turn the page

Here I am
On the road again
There I am
Up on the stage
Here I go
Playin' star again
There I go
There I go

Bob Seger - Get Out Of Denver Lyrics

I still remember it was autumn and the moon was shining
Our 60 Cadillac was
roaring through Nebraska whining
Doing 120 man the fields was bending
over
Heading out for the mountains knowing we was traveling further
All
the fires were blazing and the spinning wheels were turning turning
Had my
girl beside me, brother, brother, she was burning burning

Up walked a
Baptist preachin' southern funky school teacher
She had a line on something
heavy but we couldn't reach her
We told her that we needed something that
would get us going
She pulled out all she had and laid it on the counter
showing
All I had to do was lay my money down and pick it up
The cops
came busting in and then we lit out in a pickup truck

Go! Get out of
Denver, baby, go, go
Get out of Denver, better, go
Get out of Denver,
better, go, go
Get out of Denver cause you look just like a commie
And
you might just be a member
Better get out of Denver
Better get out of
Denver

Well, red lights were flashing and the sirens were a-screaming
screaming
We had to pinch each other just to see if we were dreaming
Made
it to Loveland Pass in under less than half an hour
Lord, it started
drizzling and it turned into a thundershower

The rain was driving but
the Caddy kept on burning rubber
We kept on driving till we ran into some
fog cover
We couldn't see a thing but somehow we just kept on going
We
kept on driving all night long and then into the morning fog
It finally
lifted when we looked to see where we was at
We're staring at a Colorado
state policeman trooper cat

Go! Get out of Denver, better, go
Get out
of Denver, better, go, go
Get out of Denver, better, go
Get out of Denver
cause you look just like a commie
And you might just be a member
Better
get out of Denver
Better get out of Denver

Better go! Get out of
Denver, better, go
Get out of Denver, better, go, go
Get out of Denver,
better, go
Get out of Denver cause you look just like a commie
And you
might just be a member
Better get out of Denver
Better go!

Bob Seger Music

Mid/Late 70's and 80's

Bob Seger-Mid to Late 70's and 80's

Bob Seger's first national break-out track since Ramblin' Gamblin' Man was Katmandu which came out in 1975. It managed number 43 on the US Charts. Then, in 1976 Bob Seger released Live Bullet which was a big hit. It stayed on the charts for over 160 weeks. But the album that gained him National Success was Night Moves, also released in 1976.

He went on to put out great music like Stranger in Town, Still the Same, We've Got Tonight, and an old favorite of mine, Old Time Rock & Roll. The 80's brought Against the Wind, Fire Lake, Nine Tonight and LIke a Rock, to name a few. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 15, 2004.

Bob Seger's Night Moves

  • Rock and Roll Never Forgets

  • Night Moves

  • Fire Down Below

  • Sunspot Baby

  • Main Street

  • Come to Poppa

  • Ship of Fools

  • Mary Lou

Bob Seger - Rock & Roll Never Forgets Lyrics

So you're a little bit older and a lot less bolder
Than you used to be
So you used to shake 'em down
But now you stop and think about your dignity

So now sweet sixteens turned thirty-one
You get to feelin' weary when the work days done
Well all you got to do is get up and into your kicks
If you're in a fix

Come back baby
Rock and roll never forgets

You better get yourself a partner
Go down to the concert or the local bar
Check the local newspapers
Chances are you won't have to go too far
Yeah the rafters will be ringing cause the beat's so strong
The crowd will be swaying and singing along
And all you got to do is get in into the mix
If you need a fix

Come back baby
Rock and roll never forgets
Oh the bands still playing it loud and lean
Listen to the guitar player making it scream
All you got to do is just make that scene tonight
Heh tonight

Well now sweet sixteens turned thirty-one
Feel a little tired feeling under the gun
Well all Chuck's children are out there playing his licks
Get into your kicks
Come back baby
Rock 'n Roll never forgets
Said you can come back baby
Rock 'n Roll never forgets

Bob Seger - Let It Rock Lyrics

In the heat of the day, down in Mobile, Alabama
Workin' on the railroad with a steel drivin' hammer
Tryin' to get some money, get some brand new shoes
Tryin to find a lady, chase away my blues
Hot and wasted Lord sweatin' in the sun
'Cause I'm not a foreman 'till my work is all done

Later in the evening when the sun is sinking low
I'll be out there waitin' for the whistle to blow
Sittin' in the teepee smokin' out on the track
Rollin' them bones (meaning dice) till my foreman get back
Suddenly I hear the breakman up and shout
There's a non-stop train comin' two miles out

Everybody jumpin' and a scrambling around
Tryin to get the line an get the teepee down
Railroad owner's 'bout to go insane
Tryin' to get the workers out the way of the train
Here come the engineer honk his horn
He got a non-stop train, we got to let it roll on!

Bob Seger - We've Got Tonight Lyrics

I know it's late, I know you're weary
I know your plans don't include me
Still here we are, both of us lonely
Longing for shelter from all that we see
Why should we worry, no one will care girl
Look at the stars so far away
We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow?
We've got tonight babe
Why don' you stay?

Deep in my soul, I've been so lonely
All of my hopes, fading away
I've longed for love, like everyone else does
I know I'll keep searching, even after today
So there it is girl, I've said it all now
And here we are babe, what do you say?
We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow?
We've got tonight babe
Why don't you stay?

I know it's late, I know you're weary
I know your plans don't include me
Still here we are, both of us lonely
Both of us lonely

We've got tonight, who needs tomorrow?
Let's make it last, let's find a way
Turn out the light, come take my hand now
We've got tonight babe
Why don't you stay?
Why don't you stay?

Bob Seger - Against The Wind Lyrics

It seems like yesterday
But it was long ago
Janie was lovely, she was the queen of my nights
There in the darkness with the radio playing low
And the secrets that we shared
The mountains that we moved
Caught like a wildfire out of control
Till there was nothing left to burn and nothing left to prove

And I remember what she said to me
How she swore that it never would end
I remember how she held me oh so tight
Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then

Against the wind
We were running against the wind
We were young and strong, we were running
Against the wind

And the years rolled slowly past
And I found myself alone
Surrounded bv strangers I thought were my friends
I found myself further and further from my home
And I guess I lost my way
There were oh so many roads
I was living to run and running to live
Never worried about paying or even how much I owed

Moving eight miles a minute for months at a time
Breaking all of the rules that would bend
I began to find myself searchin'
Searching for shelter again and again

Against the wind
A little something against the wind
I found myself seeking shelter
Against the wind

Well those drifters' days are past me now
I've got so much more to think about
Deadlines and commitments
What to leave in
What to leave out

Against the wind
I'm still runnin' against the wind
I'm older now but still running
Against the wind
Well I'm older now and I'm still running
Against the wind...

Bob Seger - Old Time Rock and Roll Lyrics

Just take those old records off the shelf
I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself
Today's music ain 't got the same soul
I like that old time rock 'n' roll
Don't try to take me to a disco
You'll never even get me out on the floor
In ten minutes I'll be late for the door
I like that old time rock'n' roll
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Still like that old time rock'n' roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
oo
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock 'n' roll
Won't go to hear them play a tango
I'd rather hear some blues or funky old soul
There's only one sure way to get me to go
Start playing old time rock 'n' roll
Call me a relic, call me what you will
Say I'm old-fashioned, say I'm over the hill
Today's music ain't got the same soul
I like that old time rock 'n' roll

Still like that old time rock'n' roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock 'n' roll

Bob Seger - Still The Same Lyrics

You always won everytime
you placed a bet
You're still damn good
No one's gotten to you yet
Everytime they were sure
they had you caught
You were quicker than they thought
You'd just turn your back and walk
You always said
The cards would never do you wrong
The trick you said
was never play the game too long
A gambler's share
The only risk that you would take
the only loss you could forsake
[ Find more Lyrics on www.mp3lyrics.org/wOj ]
The only bluff you couldn't fake

And you're still the same
I caught up with you yesterday
Moving game to game
No one standing in your way
Turning on the charm
Long enough to get you by
You're still the same
You still aim high

There you stood
Everybody watched you play
I just turned and walked away
I had nothing left to say
'Cause you're still the same
You're still the same
Moving game to game
Some things never change
You're still the same

Bob Seger - It's A Mystery Lyrics

It's A Mystery
How the heart beats
How the sun shines
How our eyes meet

It's A Mystery
lt's a wonder
How we keep from
Sinking under

It's A Mystery

All the nonsense
Set before us
Supposed to shock us
But it bores us

All the ennui
All the replays
All the rewrites
All the
"can't
says"

It's A Mystery

Electron guns
fire images
They end in
interstellar space
Within the year
[ Find more Lyrics on www.mp3lyrics.org/wNk ]

And through it all
We dance and starve and
Burn and clear

It's A Mystery
How they con us
How they sneak til
They're upon us

All the anchors
With their helmets
Getting ratings
With their zealots

All the pundits
All the salesmen
Setting snake oil
To the nation

All the specials
Every rerun
All the penguins
Getting well-done

It's A Mystery

It's A Mystery
How the heart beats
How the sun shines
How our eyes meet

It's A Mystery
It's a wonder
How we ever
Find each other
