Bodum Cafetiere: Make the Perfect Brew
Ranked #11,655 in Food & Cooking, #207,885 overall
Coffee!
That is what my husband says to me any morning we wake up when he doesn't have to go to work. That's because a day off means that he doesn't have an hour drive to get to work, and can enjoy a good cup of coffee, or 2, in the morning.
Drip and filter coffee-makers take up a lot of counter space that we just don't have. Old-fashioned percolator type coffee brewers don't seem to exist. One option was left him, a cunning little device that makes him a wonderfully strong cup of coffee every time.
A cafetiere, sometimes called a French Press.
After looking at all the choices for Cafetieres available, I opted to get the Bodum brand. It looked to be the best in terms of durability and quality.
I was right, it is the best.

First, a confession
I don't drink coffee
Really, can't stand the stuff.Even so, I make my husband his coffee. I even go so far as to grind the beans. Using an electric coffee grinder.
I did invest in a smaller Bodum Cafetiere for myself though once I saw how easy they were to use.
The Bodum French Press is absolutely perfect for brewing herbal teas that I make from my lose herbal supplies. No worry about straining the herbs or finding something to use as a filter. I just put the herbs in my cafetiere, add boiling or just off the boil water, and let it brew before pressing the plunger down.
The added benefit of using this method to brew teas is that, like with coffee, the essential oils released from the herbs are not trapped in a filter and so the full benefit is obtained.

You'll Need the Right Grind for a Cafetiere
When using French Press, you want a coarsely ground bean.
You can buy the beans ready-ground in nearly any grocery store or specialty shop, but why not try grinding your own for that extra-fresh flavour.
If, like me, you like to grind your own spices, consider investing in two grinders. They are perfect for grinding whole spices, but you don't really want the flavours to mix.

A Brief History of Bodum Cafetieres
The Bodum company was first started by Peter Bodum in Copenhagen at the end of World War II in 1944. Originally he sold houseware products under license from other Danish manufactures, but by the 1950s began designing his own products. The idea carried forward from then to today - beautiful simplicity and excellent materials for everyday life.
The Santos Coffeemaker, based upon a vacuum coffee brewing system entered the market in 1958. The Bodum Company continues to produce the Santos system using the original design to this day.The first Bodum French Press was introduced in 1974. Since then, Bodum has produced over 60 million French Presses.
Peter Bodum's son, Joergen Bodum, made the decision to move the compny from Denmark to Switzerland in 1979. It remains a 100% family-owned business to this day, operating in 17 different companies with over 600 employess world-wide.

- My husband would be lost without his French Press. We've got one of the Bodums in a mini size.

- I'm 'addicted' to coffee -- first thing every morning. My son has a French Press, as he likes very strong coffee. My tastes run a bit 'milder' :). Excellent review of the Bodum Cafetiere.

- An excellent lens. I love coffee and tea. I agree that the French Press is the best way to make coffee and I use freshly ground beans as well. Lately, though, I've been drinking more tea. I might have to look into getting a Bodum tea press!

- I actually have a Bodum French press and while it makes the most delicious coffee, I just can't drink it - coffee doesn't like me. Now I'll try using it for tea! Hadn't thought of that!

- I don't drink coffee either and I would never have really thought of using it for tea. Just do things the old fashioned way. Nice product review. Thanks

- Nice! I used to have something like this I used for herbal tea, till it got broken. We have a coffee maker that takes up space and doesn't make good coffee! When it breaks I'll just have to check into these little guys.
