Glands that produce oil can be found in the skin on every part of the body. Your body has up to 2.6 million sweat glands. The reader of this web page should thus not be surprised to learn that acne can flare up on any part of the body.

Body Acne

Body acne develops in places where a person sweats, and where sweat is permitted to cover the skin. Body acne can become a real problem if a person chooses to wear tight-fitting clothing. Such clothing encourages the formation of sweat.

Sweat can form on someone who is wearing loose fitting clothing, if that person has engaged in a fair amount of exercise, or if that person is very nervous. Yet a person with loose fitting clothing might sweat profusely without developing an appreciable amount of body acne. Why then does a person with tight-fitting clothing tend to get body acne?

When a person is wearing tight clothes, any sweat that forms can mix easily and rapidly with the skin's surface oils. As the sweat mixes with those oils, the resulting mixture can clog the skin pores. Acne develops when skin pores become clogged.
The term "body acne" takes in many different typed of acne. Whiteheads, inflamed pustules and papules can all be found among the many cases of body acne. Because the skin on the body is much thicker than the skin on the face, body acne treatment can not promise "overnight" results.

Prevention of body acne and teenage acne begins with good hygiene. It helps to shower as soon as possible after engaging in some activity that causes the body to sweat. For times where even showering fails to prevent body acne as well as back acne, there are treatments that can provide the acne sufferer with needed relief.

An area of skin with body acne should be cleaned with a salicylic acid or a benzoyl peroxide pad. Once it has been cleaned then the treatment protocol calls for application of a moisturizer. The moisturizer should stay on the area of body acne for about 8 hours. It is therefore best to apply a moisturizer at bedtime.

If the above treatment does not bring the expected results, then an alternate treatment needs to be tried. Put a solution such as Retin A on the area with the body acne. In addition, speak with a doctor about using some oral antibiotics. The antibiotics kill the bacteria that have actually caused the body acne.
