Body Image the FlyLady Way
Personally, I have owned this book for nearly two years, I've just never gotten around to picking it up yet. I think it is safe to say that I am scared to read it. That's probably the real reason why I'm looking for buddies to read it along with me! Since becoming a mother I have come to realize that it is time that I finally take charge of my weight and develop a more positive body image.
So if you too are ready to dump the clutter from your body, get yourself a copy and join me!
Getting Started
I will try to cover one chapter a week -something doable for us busy folks. And as it is online, you can read and respond at your own pace. If you are joining us after we start, don't worry: you are not behind -jump in where you are!

Chapter 1 -Food: The Ultimate Weapon of Self-Destruction

"Food is our comfort zone -when we have a full tummy, we feel content. Just like when we were babies, we would stop crying when our tummy was full and satisfied. Several years ago I used to stuff my face to keep from crying my eyes out. The more I stuffed food down my throat, the more I was pushing away dealing with the real problems. I still have to face th results of that overdose on food each time I see myself in the mirror. After many years of loving me just the way I am, I have finally realized that it was the emotional pain that I had never dealt with that put the Body Clutter on me."

Body Clutter
For some, there are medical reasons why you are not at a healthy weight. If you are reading this, then I am guessing that it is not your body holding you back so much as your mind. I'm hoping this book will help me figure out what triggers compulsion to eat. Then I should be able to figure out healthier ways to comfort myself!

- I agree also, I don't have just one food item to call a comfort food. I eat because I love the taste and enjoy it. My problem is that I don't don't stop, Though I am getting better about the stress eating (but not always) I eat more out of board em, giving my hands something to do.
My other problem is the food choices I make. I almost always go for flavor not nutritional value, and the saltier the better.

- I know exactly what you mean! There is not one single food that I turn to: more of a type of food. I like full-fat things -such as ice cream. Something with body, texture & flavor. And bread -can't live without bread!

- I struggled with this answer. Not because I don't have a comfort food but because I have so many of them. That introduces the question in my mind that maybe I just don't know. So many people say mashed potatoes or mac & cheese or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I'm not even sure if what I THINK are comfort foods are comfort foods, but when I'm stressed, I turn to candy bars, chips, or ice cream. The closest real food I can come up with is pizza. Or maybe cheesecake. See? I think of these as problem foods not comfort foods.
Diet?
I am curious to know what is your view of food. Does the word "diet" mean a restriction to you or is it a general description of what you eat?
What is a diet?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byI think a diet is a regimen of eating & drinking sparingly in order to lose weight
Monika says:
I think diet is a four letter word. Diet means denial, restrictions and ultimately failure.
So I'm trying to focus on the two sayings that are inscribed on Greek Temples "Know Thyself" and "Nothing in Excess" If I "know" I have no self-control, portion-control with brownies or anything chocolate then I should not have them or have them "in excess" in the house.

I think a diet is one's habitual nurishment.
Sherylk1515 says:
It used to be a restriction for me, know I am teaching myself that a diet is just a general description of what I eat.

Two Greek phrases come to mind right now: Know thyself; and Nothing in Excess. They seem perfect for this book! We are working on getting to know ourselves and figure out why we misuse food. At the same time, we will be figuring out ways to eat food in moderation.
