Bodybuilding Foods

Bodybuilding FoodsAs a passionate nutrition enthusiast I find that the main reason people fail to reach their fitness goals is lack of proper diet. By proper diet I mean the qualities and quantities of food they consume on a daily basis. Lets face it, most of the foods at your local supermarket are complete junk and will do nothing but delay your progress. Here is the list of the best bodybuilding foods so sit down relax and feel free to dig in!

Eggs- Before whey-protein powders, bodybuilders consumed vast amounts of eggs to meet their protein requirements. Each egg is packed with 7 grams of protein, only 80 calories and contains all 8 essential amino acids. If your worried about the cholesterol or fat content egg whites are a great alternative.

Oatmeal- I'm not talking about the instant sugary crap either. Plain old-fashioned oatmeal is a great source of carbohydrates for bodybuilders. Oatmeal consists of about 5 grams of protein, 3 grams of unsaturated fats, and 2 grams of fiber. Having a bowl of oatmeal is a great way to start and end each day as the slow acting carbohydrates refuel your depleted stores. I like to use milk and throw in some whey protein powder just for some extra protein and flavor.

Fish- Tuna and Salmon are the 2 most prominent fish in bodybuilding with good reason. They are packed with tons of protein and rich in omega-3 fatty acids that not only help build muscle but promote cardiovascular health. The easiest and most affordable way to get these fish is in cans as they are generally available in bulk. While you're at it, get some gum or breathe mints for after these meals your date will thank me.

Chicken and Lean Beef- Of course we couldn't forget about our favorite farm animals. Both chicken and red meats are versatile foods filled with protein and nutrients. Steaks have natural creatine that plays a key role in speeding up the muscle recovery process. A word of caution about buying steaks, always go for the lean cuts that trim excess fat (the rib cuts have the highest fat content). As for the poultry, chicken breasts are very cheap and can be prepared in a variety of great tasting ways (Chicken salad, BBQ Chicken etc.).

Overall building muscle comes down to 3 factors: Eat, Train, and Sleep. Give yourself an advantage by using these muscle building foods before you go wasting money on supplements. Bodybuilding is all about consistency and hard work so stay true your goals by eating right and hitting those weights!
