What the heck is a BodyBugg?
What is this BodyBugg contraption and is it worth it? My answer = Absolutely, it is worth it!
I have had my BodyBugg for over two years now. I lost over 30 pounds and have easily kept it off and willingly changed several bad habits. With the right information about exactly how many calories I am burning down to the quarter hour, I make smarter decisions. It is easy when you have all the needed info to make good decisions about eating and working out. Something I was never able to do on a consistent basis before.
We all know what to do, but don't really make ourselves do the right thing. With the help of instant feedback and technology, weight loss and fitness levels are controlled without any guess work as to what works or not. You decide if you want to be good or bad and can even decide how good or bad you want to be. The BodyBugg by Apex tells you exactly how many calories you burn sitting at the computer, putting clothes in the washer, walking around the block or toughening up at the gym. Download via USB, and you can decide your next steps, literally!
I have NEVER been more in control of my weight, diet and health. If you are wondering if this is right for you, here are the pros and cons.
Pros: This thing is accurate, puts you in control with instant choices and feedback on the results of your choices. You can see how many calories you have burned that day and decide if you need to go for a workout, if you can sit on the couch and relax, or if you can splurge and have a special treat. You know exactly where you are in calories going in and out.
Cons: You have to be very consistent and take the time to enter your foods in the on-line menu to keep track of calories you are eating if you want to learn or improve your eating habits. If it is just all about the exercise for you, then done. But, I have found that what I thought was a healthy portion size and nutrient balanced diet was way off. The hard put is keeping track, the results and self-education make it worth it. It takes about 5-15 mintues a day depending on how good you get with the menus. If you eat the same thing often, even easier.
How does it work?
You wear the BodyBugg as an armband during the day and any time you want to measure calories you are burning. It has four sensors that gather information from gyrometers, heat sensors, and measure things like galvanic impedance. This information is uploaded via a USB or wireless connection to your computer and saved in your online profile. You can login and see exactly how many calories you burn during specific activities. A running total lets you know how many calories you have burned for the day and what you have left to burn to counteract that little splurge at lunch. Incredibly easy and YOU make the choices about your health.
Some people are skimping and buying used on eBay
I love mine and I am not selling, so find your own!
If you buy a used BodyBugg, (there seem to be several showing up on eBay these days), make sure you get the original personal user login from the previous owner. I must caveat that the information received about nutrition was quite instrumental for me. I had a very extensive knowledge of nutrition and fitness, but still found the sessions valuable. That said, the Bodybugg synchs with a website to store and analyze all your calories burned and lets you input meals to calculate nutrional values against your calories burned. The monthly fee for this web-based feature hovers around $15 and less if you purchase a longer subscription, but It costs nearly $200 to register an armband under a new owner and set up this site. If willing, you can transfer and use the previous owners login and just pay for the continued subscription fee if needed. The disadvantage is you don't get the support and services included with the new system. The new BodyBuggs come with personal services to teach you how to use your system and help you design your program for nutrition and fitness to meet your own goals.

Do you know what to eat?
Yes, now know how much and when you can splurge!
Try this:
White or wheat bread? Wheat of course.
Fruit or sugar based snack? Fruit.
Fried chicken or grilled?
You get the idea. We know more than we think about nutrition since we are bombarded with it everyday. Portion control and making a few smarter choices along the way will greatly increase your nutritional value of meals. With the BodyBugg, you now know exactly how much of each portion you want to have to meet your goals. 3 oz. of chicken or 5? Ohh... look at that, the walk at lunch burned some extra calories, you can afford 5 oz! Did really well today with healthy snacks? You can enjoy a small scoop of ice cream tonight.
If you have strict goals such as weight loss, body mass changes, raising you BMR, lowing body fat, then the BodyBugg is critical in helping define those goals and tracking progress on a daily basis. I truly understand the role my metabolic rate plays in my daily activities. Not the number from a book, but MY metabolism. No more guesswork!
