Welcome To My Lens
Hi, I'm Henry and I have been researching Bokashi composting. My family needed a good system that was suitable for our needs. It had to be efficient and not attract pests.
Having researched Bokashi composting, I reckon all families should have one!
By the way, I wrote this lens at Marley Perkins Education, in Christchurch New Zealand, where I go for writing tuition.

What Is Bokashi?
Bokashi is a Japanese type of composting that recycles food scraps and then makes them into a sort of fertiliser for plants and soil.
How Is It Environmentally Friendly?
- No fly-attracting smells
- Conveniently small
- Most kitchen waste can be put in the Bokashi
- Improves soil and plant quality
- Saves landfill space
How Does It Work?
Layer the Bokashi mix and food scraps in the Bokashi container. Also tip out the liquid and use 1:100 parts of water. It is economical and nutritious for your plants. Then wait for four weeks and then dig a trench in your garden. Tip into the trench and wait 6 - 8 weeks. The soil will be dark and will have improved in quality.
How Does It Affect Your Garden/Drains?
Official breakdown will occur when the soil has turned darker black and your plants will be healthier and they will live longer and be stronger.
The liquid is good not only for your plants but your drains as well. It cleans out the bugs and other things that don't go down properly.
