Bomb Found In The Haymarket In Central London, England
June 29, 2007
A bomb was found and defused in London's theater district, The Haymarket, inside a vehicle near Piccadilly Circus.
The device contained 200 liters of fuel and was possibly linked to a triggering device. The device is said to have been capable of causing a large amount damage, had it been detonated.
Apparently, an eye witness told staff at a nearby night club about the car, which was driven into some rubbish bins. The driver allegedly exited the vehicle and took off on foot. The witness said the driver had been driving the vehicle erratically before the minor crash.
There is no word on who might be responsible, but many are suspecting Islamic extremists who have threatened to attack such venues in the past.
I'll post more about this breaking news story as soon as I can.
U.K. Now On Highest Alert Status
The U.K. is now at its highest terror alert level (critical) after an attack at Scotland's biggest airport in Glasgow. Two men apparently drove an explosives-filled vehicle directly into the airport.
Authorities are currently assuming that this incident is directly related to the Friday discoveries of two other similar vehicles in London.
One of the two suspects has been arrested an is in police custody. The other man, as reported by an eye-witness, allegedly got out of the burning vehicle, doused himself with fuel, and lit himself aflame on purpose. He is said to have seemed as though he was enjoying every minute of the horriffic event. This man is currently in the hospital in critical condition.
Police expect to remain on high alert for at least the rest of this weekend, expecting that more attacks may be imminent.
