All About Bone - A Comic Book of Epic Proportions
Ranked #15,957 in Arts & Design, #325,817 overall
The Wonderful World of Bone
Bone is the story of three brothers who embark on a perilous journey through strange lands, encounter mystical beasts, fall in love... and race cows. Now dosn't that sound like an interesting story?
Welcome to Bone, a wonderful fantasy comic with a side of slapstick! I know you're going to love it.
So, What's the Story?
Rat creatures, dragons, princesses, cows. Humor and drama, comedy and tragedy. It's kinda hard to describe a story like Bone. That's because there's really no other story like it!The drawings might remind you of Pogo. The story may remind you of Lord of the Rings. The grand scale of the Bones' adventure might make you think of a Carl Barks story. But Bone is still unique, in a category all it's own.
Originally published in 55 issues, Bone has been collected in nine volumes (twice!). The first edition collected all the original black and white art. Now Scholastic is in the process of publishing all nine volumes in color (they recently released Volume 6). Very exciting for long-time Bone fans like me!
So, read on for more information on the epic of Bone. Once you learn about these comics, I know you'll be hooked!
Bone: The Entire Story
Here are thirteen years and 1,300 pages of Bone collected and published in one handy volume. Want to know the whole story? This is all you need.
Volume 1: Out From Boneville
Here is your introduction to the world of Bone! You'll meet the Bone cousins as they stumble into a strange valley full of odd creatures, talking bugs and one very pretty girl named Thorn.
Volume 2: The Great Cow Race
The Bones begin to work on a plan to get back home but find themselves instead in the middle of the Great Cow Race. It also seems that a war may be coming to the little valley...
Volume 3: Eyes of the Storm
Some mysterious questions are answered while new ones are raised. Thorn learns a bit about her past as well. It now seems that war is imminent. Suspense, humor and dream sequences are all rolled into the conclusion of the first trilogy of the Bane series.
The Art of Bone
Bone is an international publishing sensation with hundreds of thousands of loyal readers and no end in sight to its growing popularity. Now, for the first time anywhere, see the homemade comics, sketches and grand plans that set this masterpiece of literary fantasy in motion. From there, take a tour through piles of promotional art, holiday cards and pivotal storytelling moments from the revolutionary self-published years, where Bone went from "the little comic that could" to an industry leader that changed the face of comics. Finally, revel in the wonder of Bone as a complete 1300-page graphic novel, a work for the ages, filled with comedy and tragedy and adventure for generations to come.
Volume 4: The Dragonslayer
If you were under the impression that Bone was a series for just for kids, you'll see that you were wrong in this first book that begins the second trilogy. There is conflict, violence, and evil on the horizon. The Dragonslayer is less light-hearted and more character driven then before.
Volume 5: Rockjaw Master of the Eastern Border
The Bone cousins venture out into the wilds and discover a group of abandoned baby animals as well as a large and intimidating mountain lion. Rat creatures are everywhere! The excitement continues...
Volume 6: Old Man's Cave
The conclusion of the second trilogy ends with a major cliffhanger! War spreads throughout the valley as the Bones join Gran'ma Ben and Lucius at Old Man's Cave. The Lord of the Locusts is near! Eek!
Rose
Gran'ma Ben was a princess? Yes, it's true! For the whole story you must read the prequel to Bone! This volume collects the entire Rose series and is best read after Old Man's Cave (Volume 6 of Bone), although Rose is a strong enough fantasy story to stand alone from the Bone series. Beautifully drawn and colored! You'll enjoy reading this collection of stories.
Volume 7: Ghost Circles
The story turns dark and more serious as the a volcano explodes and shoot and ash cover the valley. Volume 7 is where the series reverts back to the original Black & White. Amazon says that Volume 7 will be in color by February 2008 (and when it is, it will be listed here!).
Volume 8: Treasure Hunters
The Bone cousins make it safely to the city of Atheia but evil is approaching and their will soon be a great battle! The tension mounts in this next-to-the-last volume of Bone.
Volume 9: Crown of Horns
The conclusion of it all... you won't be disappointed.
