England was practically over run by plots during the early 17th Century.
The discovery of the Bye Plot in 1604 led to all Roman Catholic clergy being ordered to leave England. That same year, the Main Plot sought to overthrow the King and replace him with a rival claimant.
The plot which people remember today though is the Gunpowder Plot.
