My Wife Bonnie, Bon or JustBon

From the first day we met I knew that my wife, Bonnie, would become the most important person in my life.

We did not meet in the "normal" way. I was on one side of the Atlantic in England, she on the other side in the States. For around seventeen months it stayed that way, but through our correspondence, I knew I had found my soul mate.

Once we had met, my love for her blossomed as she became my best friend, my guide, my mentor, my encouragement, as well as my wife and lover.

For many on Squidoo, she was Bon or JustBon. To me, she was my silver lining and truly was my linchpin.

The Missus, Me...and Squidoo

Bonnie was an encouragement to me in many important ways. She was the one who soothed my soul after tragedy hit my life, always there as a source of reassurance and comfort. She was the one who kicked my butt when I had doubts about going back to university in my early 40s. She was the one who watched me sweat over daily homework assignments, acting as my cheerleader. She was the one who screamed the loudest on the day I received my degree.

While in real life she was all of those things to me and more, she tried to touch other people's lives and efforts with a positive attitude as well. Her time on Squidoo saw her become a Giant Squid, but more importantly to her was her time as a Giant Greeter and her former role as a Squid Angel. Because of health issues, her visibility was not as high as other Giants, but one of the things she enjoyed the most was trying to help and encourage others. These roles suited her perfectly. In real life, she could chatter with a complete stranger for twenty minutes, and build up a lasting rapport.

The same could be said of her online life. While she operated more in the background, her relentless sense of humour and her quiet helpfulness forged some wonderful friendships.

But, she was camera shy. So, all you saw of her was that pale, model's dummy wrapped in one of her crochet creations!

I know that I am her husband, and I know that I am biased, but over the more than three years that Bon was a part of Squidoo, she created some wonderful articles.

I've included three of them here that will give a little insight into her work. Firstly, her list of over 100 pages, followed by a special collection of work featuring her favourite template, SquidWho. Lastly, I think the article she was most proud of: British Glam Rock of the Seventies. Dedicated to me, and a purple star recipient.

I didn't have the privilege of knowing your wife and can obly judge by her footprint on Squidoo - her lenses and the memories people have of her. The lenses are warm and good to read, the memories are strong and heartfelt. I'm sorry the two of you didn't have longer together as it seems to me that you both deserved and augmented the other. I hope that is of some comfort to you and that your wife will rest in peace, especially in your heart.

I feel so priviledged to have known Bonnie "online". I think the last connection I had with her was when Rich and I worked on the SEO on one of her lenses about Robbie Williams, when she was ill and Rich had taken over looking after her lenses.

Thinking about you both Rich, particularly today, on the first anniversary of Bonnie's passing.
