If you are looking to serve a dinner, which is called high tea, as a party theme for your book club meeting, more substantial food is provided.
For a low tea, also called an afternoon tea, lighter foods are served. This type of tea is supposed to be a 'light snack' although it is frequently used as a luncheon.
A cream tea, is one of the simplest afternoon tea parties there is. This involves scones, clotted cream, jam,(usually strawberry), and tea of course. Very quick to prepare, and is always a treat especially if you make the scones from scratch, or have a good quality bakery near-by.
