Read a good book lately? I have.

My name is Shandi Penrod, and I am a voracious reader. My husband and I own a LIFE leadership and personal development business for which I am continuously reading great leadership and life principles books. I also have a wide variety of interests including cooking, pet birds, pet rats, green living, nutrition, environmental health, coffee and tea, chocolate, feng shui, internet marketing and SEO, writing, and sharing.

I like to review books to solve problems. Every once in a while I read a book about a subject I previously knew nothing about; If I like it I share it so others, if interested, have a good jumping point for learning about the same topic. Sometimes I or someone I know has a specific interest or a problem and I want to recommend a whole list of books. My book lists reviews typically contain a list of five to ten books I found enjoyable or useful and recommend, each with their own book review.

Here I keep those recommendations in one central place.

The 5 Best Leadership Books Ever

Leaders know that they can't change other people but they can change how other people react by changing their own actions. Leaders also know that you can't teach yourself everything; they have to be willing to learn from people who have more experience than themselves, other who already have fruit on the tree in the area they want to pursue. Here I list what I consider the 5 Best Leadership Books Ever. Read my reviews, tell us if you've read them, and then add your own favorites.

Leadership Books & MP3 Audiobooks for Business & Community Leaders

Yes, you can learn to be a better leader and manager. It takes a hunger to learn, a desire to serve others, and the right teachers.

In today's Information Age advice is plentiful. Finding the right teachers and eliminating the wrong advice can be difficult. These are some of the best leadership development books a growing leader or manager can own. Each of these books is also available in downloadable MP3 audiobook form (for your convenience referral links are included for each book). Listen to them in your car. Listen again. Read them. Study them. Mark them up with underlines and margin notes. Then, apply their principles and watch your effectiveness and influence grow.

5 Books to Save Your Marriage -or- 5 Books to Make a Good Relationship Flourish

If a relationship doesn't grow then it's moving backward; it doesn't stand still. That's why it's important for even healthy relationships to continually improve. On the other hand, if your relationship is in trouble and you don't actively work to fix it by learning new information (either from a friend or parent in a successful marriage, a therapist, a book, or workshop) the relationship will only continue to deteriorate.

I've read several marriage and relationship books that have helped my and my husband's good relationship flourish into a great relationship. Here are what I believe to be the best six.

Books by Food Network Chef Alton Brown

I would describe Alton Brown as a cross between a chef and a food scientist--a description which I'm sure he'd appreciate. Self-described, he's a gastrophysicist.

In addition to Good Eats, Feasting on Asphalt, and other TV endeavors, Alton has also written a number of reference/recipe books. I've listed and reviewed each book here.

A Vegetarian Cookbook Collection

There are so many cookbooks out there for vegetarians now that even herbivores have no trouble eating a wide variety of great (and healthy) food. Some are better than others, of course, so I've compiled a list of reviews of the vegetarian cookbooks I own as well as some thoughts on some of those on my wish list.

Check out my cookbook choices, tell me what you think of them, and share some of your own.
