Best Book Marketing
Introduction
Here's the problem. I understand that most books are still sold in book stores. As authors and writers, I think it is about time that we figure out how to better market our books online.Presently, I have no clue how to change this stubborn trend. I have faith that the power of Squidoo can help. So I invite you to go on a journey of discovery with me.
If you have ideas how to market your books online, please share them on this lens. And we will pass the word around.
I must confess that I have been frustrated and stressed at times when constructing this lens. It is not an easy thing to promote our work.
But there is a hopeful message here: It's about perseverance, slowing down, stopping, thinking, getting centered. And just going for your goal!
I do have a few ideas about book marketing. First, I think it is important to share samples of our work. So check out these pictures, look over the material, and let me know what you think.

#2. Sample of Overcoming Emotional Suffering:

scoursen says:
There's a definite need to do both nowadays. Internet viewers almost expect things to be free to try, so allowing for either excerpts or longer samples of your work to be freely downloaded can go a long way in growing your reader base.
But ultimately, it comes down to have a base of readers who want to discuss your work with both you the author and with their friends and associates. Word of mouth is still the most powerful advertising method.

Build a blog before you even write the book, and make sure you have an audience who is interested in what you have to say. Also make sure you have a mailing list, since most people don't buy the first time they're exposed to something. :)
On your blog, you can definitely have some free samples of your work.

Both are important. And both are neglected by many authors, including self-published ones.
You should definitely provide lots of free content online for your fans and potential fans. And if your book is a novel, you should probably post the entire text for online preview, because most of your readers are probably not going to want to read it online. Instead, they're going to want a printed and bound copy to curl up in bed with.
You should also have a blog and a mailing list. Try to get your fans' postal addresses, too, and send them free content and announcements of upcoming books. There are a zillion ways you can capitalize on direct mail to sell books, or even to make a little extra cash. And while you should sell through Amazon and Barnes & Noble and other bookstores, you should not depend on them for your livelihood. Especially for the self-published author, Amazon should be a minor distribution channel, a way to get fans that you might have missed otherwise, and then bring them into your direct-marketing sales funnel.

I like Cory Doctorow's approach with his novel, Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom - provide a book for free, and sell it as well. If your first book is well-received, the chances that someone would purchase your next book are increased.

I feel that one of the best ways to market your books online is to first have another site dedicated to the promotion of your book. For example: My site that I created is:www.authortree.com/Fantasywriter1
By giving a website URL address for your website and maybe even telling people a little about it then that can promote sales!

You definately want to show samples of your work. Also put your website link in many places, network in social networking places.

Or engage readers in more interaction?

I have not had much success. I've sold a handful from Facebook. I have lenses about my book on Squidoo. I'm on some other social network sites and Twitter. It can be frustrating, but I won't give up!!!

Search out the Amazon.com reviewers and ask them if they would be willing to read your book and put a review on Amazon.com. This will help you as far as the American Market is concerned.

I'm not sure I have an opinion on what the best online marketing approach works. I know what I don't lie: spam, hype, exaggerated claims. I think the best approaches might involve making personal connections with others through online communities, offering comments with content rather than blatant advertising, finding ways to tune into the world views of specific groups of readers and offering free samples of work such as chapters.

Enjoyed the sample of your work above. Number four in particular makes me want to attempt a poem that might correspond with it. Meditating on visual art to produce literary art is sometimes part of my creative process and one of my latest books, ELEMENTAL, The Power of Illuminated Love, with artist Luther E. Vann, was actually written in that manner.
In regard to promoting books online, I would say that establishing an individual website is definitely one necessity but so is creating a presence on sites such B&N where you can post comments on a variety of works and introduce yourself to new readers. In addition, it's good to refer those who attend your book signings or other events to your sites so they keep up with your work.

I love to create a game or a quiz based upon a book... Interaction is the keyword, I guess!... And if you promote all this stuff through various blogs, sooner or later you'll see the results. (I hope.)

I signed a contract with Rock Publishing a year and a half ago. My book, My Mother's Shoes, was released two weeks ago. Its not in the bookstores yet but its doing well online. I didn't offer free downloads, but I knew I had to develop a web presence. I have 3 websites, 2 blogs, a multitude of book reviews on Amazon, 9 articles on associated content, and 92 lenses on Squidoo. My readers recognize my name and my writing style. I don't know if its enough. Time will tell.

Connections are king! When you establish a raport with people they are more likely to want to see what you've written. Sound familiar, Gary? That's exactly what Squidoo has allowed us to do.

Hi there! I have a graduate diploma in book publishing, and we were taught to realize that when it comes to non-media marketing, it is the author's personal connections can really move a book. That's why when you published your book you probably received a sheet to fill out from the marketing team that asked you about your professional connections.
Using this thinking online, joining professional organizations, joining Linkedin and other sites like that, which will create one-on-one professional connections, might be the trick to long-term success.
What do you think?

I use social networks a lot to get to know people when I can't get out to meet them in person. It's nice to get to know them personally, but not always possible. Winter time is a great time to market online. I'm going to also try the Christmas arts and crafts shows this year. I had a great time at the Frontier Days Marketplace over the 4th of July weekend. Lots of opportunities to meet people who were in a buying mood. Only problem was getting them to buy books instead of arts and crafts. I passed out bookmarks to those who were out of money when they got to our booth. At least then they could order my books from the library, which is another sale.

PREFACEWhy does adopting a positive attitude toward life seem impossible? There is a dark secret that tries to hold us back from all the good we so richly deserve.
We are born with the innate ability to overcome any human hardship whether it be social, emotional, mental, physical, or financial. The key has to be discovered on our own personal journey.
Year after year books are published promising happiness, joy, prosperity, love and health. They just don't tell us how to do it. Oh, yes, they tell us to think positive or forget about the past. They offer us chants and "powers" and even "secrets".
Here's the real secret: As long as your heart or mind or body remembers that negative incident from how ever long ago, your ability to change will not be at hand.
Unlike these other books, I will show you how to stop the negative so you can truly gather the positive.
My name is Gary Eby. I'm 58-years-old; I've been a social worker for 37 years. Most of you think you know what a social worker does. My approach has been different.
This is what you don't know about me as a social worker: I work with all these people unfairly labeled as the dregs of society, the losers. I've worked with them for decades. And you know what? Many of them have found a way to unlock their dark secrets for recovery and healing, thus becoming true champions.
You'll hear more about that later. But for now, just begin to think there is a way beyond the pain and into a new life, no matter how far down you've fallen.

I wanted to share my thoughts in the reader feedback section above but it wasn't working. I think it is crucial that people have access to samples of your work. Just yesterday my husband was getting a sample copy of our new book printed. The lady who was helping him read just part of the introduction and said, "Wow, are you putting samples of this somewhere for people to see? I've just read the intro and I'm hooked!" That was amazing.
I think it's also important to have testimonials from people who have already read the book. On my lens /johnreece, the 10 year old son of a friend left a comment. He is one of the few who has read our book so far. And he made a great comment.
