Childrens Book and Plush Gifts
Giving children the gift of reading is the greatest gift anyone can give. It's the gift that keeps on giving. When parents spend quality time, reading to a child the whole family benefits. By adding a plush toy book character for the child to snuggle with and play make believe with, you have added another link to the magic of books.
As a school librarian, I have seen first hand, the love affair that children have with certain books and, in this lens, I will share some of that knowledge with the reader.
I have searched for and selected as many of these favorites as I could find and if they did not come as a ready-made, plush book set, then I put one together. I have added some outstanding new titles, too and some of them are Webkinz and Ty Beanie Babies. These book and plush sets can be given as treasured gifts for Christmas, birthday or any special occasion.

Start Reading Early
Studies show that it's never too early to start reading to your child. The children who have been exposed to literature and reading when they were very young, usually excel in school. In fact, some parents read to and interact with their child when the child is still in the womb. My sister taped stories for her little one before she was born and put the head set on her tummy.
Having books and magazines available in the home is very important. Children need to see that reading and books are important. If you are on a tight budget, then go to the public library and get a library card. You will also find many wonderful programs for children there. Most libraries have a read aloud day for pre-school children and parents. For older children there are also summer reading programs. Parents should take advantage of all the opportunities to further their child's education.
After all, parents are a child's first and their most important teacher.

Your Child's Name in Print
Small children love to see their own name in print and these gifts do just that. You can give the children on your list a book and puzzle which has their own name in the story or puzzle. This company also creates DVD stories and CD music with your child as a character or in the song lyrics. How cool is that?
My Very Own Name Personalized Book & Puzzle Gift Set - $ 59.90This entertaining Personalized Gift Set includes the My Very Own Name personalized book with a matching personalized floor puzzle all wrapped together in our designer gift boxes and a gold bow. Personalization: *Star's birthdate, first and last name (middle name may be included). *Name of gift giver(s) and their personal message.
Some Newer Titles
Some of the newer titles may not have much of a story line, but if they will get a child interested in books and they contain no objectionable material, then I would use them. All books are not Caldecott or Newbery Award Material, but they still can be enjoyed. And besides, one of these cute and funny books might be just the thing to get your child on the road to becoming a reader.

- I have not seen Where the Wild Things Are the movie, but from the previews, it looks like it was designed for older children however, I must take issue with your comment about the book not being appropriate for younger children. It is a PICTURE book and a winner of the Caldecott medal. It has been enjoyed by preschool children for many years. I am speaking as an elementary school librarian and teacher with 25 years of experience. I'm wondering if you have actually read the book, or if you are talking about children under 2 years old.
After reading your blog and finding that this blog is basically a short biography of Maurice Sendak, it seems that your comment (and link) to said blog is just a shameless plug to get more traffic. Actually, it's sort of spammy.

- The "Where the Wild Things Are" plush toys are definitely cute for younger kids, but parents should be aware that the books/movie might not be appropriate until they're a bit older. You can have a look at this review for more info about Sendak's works.
