Selling College Text Books

How to get more money for your College Textbooks!

If you are now a student at a University, College, or Junior University, or have ever had to buy books for your classes at an American University in the United States, then you know how costly the price of new text books can be.

I remember purchasing my last college textbook. I needed this class to meet the General Education requirement in foreign languages; it was a second year French textbook. That little, hard-back French text book which was, of course, that year's required text, cost a whopping $128.00 + tax.

That year's French text(The required text) was in its 7th edition. It was brand new to me... This, I thought, justified purchasing such a high-priced book, but on the premise that I would be able to sell the textbook back and recoup at least a portion of the amount of money I spent buying the book. What do you think happened? Of course the worst thing that could happened..., happened!

When the semester was over and I had received an A - for French 102, I went to the campus bookstore buy back section, which was a little window to offer the store your used text books for money. That is when I noticed that there was a new French text book in town. Yep! You guessed it! The publisher had decided that it needed yet another new, improved and very attractively updated into a fabulous 8th edition with leather case and flexmate pen(optional) for the coming semester. Take a guess as to how much was recompensed for an $128.00 + tax purchase?

Nope guess again? Wait... Closer...

Nope... Yep... I got to take the book home where it now sits collecting dust, adding to its hoary head. It sits upon the bookshelf near the dawg in front of the fireplace out in the back.

They said they weren't buying that textbook's edition... any more. Talking about getting a little upset. I got upset because within one semesters time they had changed editions being used as required text.

Don't become too outraged if this sort of college textbook happens to you, but if it weren't for that book, I this lens.wouldn't be...so, I guess in the end, if it helps someone else, then it may have been worthwhile..

Below are some ways to deter ill effects of not being able to sell back your college textbooks at a reasonable price and in a reasonable amount of time.
I hope that your college textbook purchase experiences will be pleasant and mild.

I think this website is more useful than textbook buyback. Buybacks don't usually give you near as much money as college students buying from one another. http://www.BookDibs.com

Hi Brett

This is an excellent and informative lens you have here. Useful tips on the textbook buy-back process. I wonder which edition they are using now. Perhaps they've reached double figures.
