I received a copy of The Lucky Child, by Thomas Buergenthal, by winning it on this site, and it was thoroughly enjoyable - with a introduction by Eli Wiesel (whom everyone knows wrote Night), It tells the story of a man who is now a judge at the Hague International and who spent his childhood in a concentration camp. Before this, his mother had taken off her wedding ring and gone to a fortune teller, who let her know that she could presage that she was married, and that her child was a "lucky child" who would endure despite unbelievably trying times in the future. The author wonders why he didn't write the book earlier, when the material was fresher in his mind (but I would guess that it would have been too painful to relive those experiences then, and certainly his age helps him take stock of everything that's occurred). A must-read! Thanks to Bookcase Flying Circus for the chance to have won it!
