Book Trading Sites

Great places to get your hands on more books! Trade for used books - just pay shipping.

Trade Books for Free - PaperBack Swap.SPOTLIGHT: PaperbackSwap - Best Book Trading Site Trade paperback books with other members, or participate in one of the swaps in the games forum. You only pay for shipping. You earn a credit for every book you ship, and then "pay" a credit for every book you request. There is no rating system here. Books are traded on a "first in, first out" basis. This is my favorite book trading resource, as there is always a large selection available and most members are honest. In over 5 years on PaperbackSwap, I've only had a couple of bad transactions out of over several hundred, but didn't lose any credits due to how the system works. GO >>

Bookins - This is a trading site where you can trade your books for points, or just pay a flat $4.49 to have a book shipped to you. GO >>

BooksFree.com - BooksFree.com allows you to "Rent" paperbacks and audiobooks, in a similar fashion to NetFlix. GO >>

Swap.com - Swap.com works differently than some of the other trading sites. You add what you have available to trade, and the system matches you with possible trades. You can trade books, CDs and DVDs. GO >>

Title Trader - Trade books, music and movies with other members. GO >>

Trade Books for Free - PaperBack Swap.

SPOTLIGHT: Shelfari - Shelfari is the premiere social network for people who love books. Create a virtual book shelf to show off your books, see what your friends are reading, and discover new books. Post reviews, look for new titles, and contribute to the community forums and book groups with fellow readers. GO >>

More Book Resources

Bookcrossing - This resource is for "releasing" books into the wild for other people to find and enjoy, and maybe journal about their experience. Bookcrossing is a global community of people who enjoy swapping books as well as releasing them for others to enjoy. Place a sticker with a number in the cover so when someone finds your book, they can enter the number in the system to and post reviews, comments or anything about where they found the book or what they thought of it. If the next person releases the book, you continue to receive updates on its journey. GO >>

Google Books - The Google monster has its claws in everything, and they are now indexing books as well. Search the full text of books to find ones that interest you and learn where to buy or borrow them. You can often read the first few chapters of a book to see if it is something you want to buy. GO >>

Great lens! My favorite free trading site is bookmooch.com. It's the same like Paperbackswap, except you can trade with people all over the world - quite convenient for me who I am not lilving in the US, since PBS doesn't allow trading outside of their own country - which is a shame really.

Useful info, thanks. Lensrolled to my short lens on BWB.

One site you don't mention is Amazon - there are some excellent bargains both amongst their own offers and secondhand. Sometime useful for harder to fiond books (as can eBay very occasionally be.

This is a very well organized and useful resource for buying books. Lensrolled to book lovers accessories. I have had good success in selling my used books through half.com.

Don't forget libraries - some let you "check out" e-books online!

You might want to add the Book Depository http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/ (free shipping!) and Thrift http://www.thriftbooks.com/

What a cool reference lens...I'll use it often, I'm sure. I dig my Nook. I'm like a kid with a new toy, and a little more literate to boot.

A really great lens chocked full of resources. Buying used books is so much cheaper and sometimes you can find series to enjoy that have long been out of print. Thanks for collecting these all together and sharing them!
  • mukunda22 Sep 11, 2010 @ 5:28 pm | delete
Thank you so much for bringing this together. I am a veteran book lover. I probably have hundreds if not 1-2 thousand books, although soon, I will be working on scaling down! Thanks again!
