Bookmarking Demon 4 - Worth The Wait?
Bookmarking Demon 3 used to be a really nice tool for obtaining targeted backlinks to your sites. However, as Bookmarking Demon matured, it no longer was able to keep up with changes to the major social bookmarking sites it supported and its effectiveness began to wane. It's customers clamored for an update, but Bookmarking Demon's creator Edwin Brian was hard at work, rewriting Bookmarking Demon completely from the ground up. After several months of development, and several delays, we've finally been treated to the beta version of Bookmarking Demon 4. So, does BMD4 live up to its lofty expectations? Read on for the rest of my review.
Playing With Bookmarking Demon 4
The first thing you'll notice about the new Bookmarking Demon 4 beta is the new interface. Gone is the boring, plain look of the old version, and in its place are bigger buttons and more colorful icons. There is now a Beginner mode which hides away some of the advanced functionality and an Experts mode that shows everything. In expert mode, the toolbar at the top does seem kind of cluttered with different functions, so newbies might be overwhelmed.Creating accounts and bookmarking sites is what Bookmarking Demon is all about, and the tool makes these two things a breeze. When creating accounts, you can input multiple user names and Bookmarking Demon will randomly pick one when creating an account on each site. When you input one of your sites to bookmark, Bookmarking Demon will automatically try to fill in the description and tags fields from the meta information in your site. If your site uses meta tags correctly, this makes adding sites easy. Otherwise, you'll still have to hand edit them. Bookmarking Demon also includes some handy syntax to allow randomizing titles, tags and descriptions to help mitigate duplicate content penalties. There's even a new alternate word syntax that lets you randomize words or phrases within your descriptions.
Another handy feature of Bookmarking Demon is the website crawler. When doing SEO, most people neglect to get backlinks to the internal pages of their site. Bookmarking Demon's website crawler is able to grab all the pages on your site and queue them up for submission. If your meta tags are set correctly, then this can be a real timesaver. If not, editing the titles, tags, and descriptions can still prove to be time consuming. Still, it's a much better alternative to submitting all your pages by hand.
One of my favorite features of the new Bookmarking Demon 4 Beta is the ability to submit random pages from RSS feeds. This allows you to add the RSS feeds from your favorite sites like CNN or Techcrunch. Whenever you submit your sites, Bookmarking Demon will randomly pick a certain number of pages from yours feeds to submit along with each of your sites. This allows you to stay under the radar and hopefully not get flagged as a self promoter.
One thing I don't like about this new version, is the change to the license. In the old version of Bookmarking Demon, you were allowed to run copies of the program on more than one computer simultaneously. With this new version, you can run it on one computer at a time. Bummer.
Bookmarking Demon Support Sites
Currently, the beta version of Bookmarking Demon 4 only supports the following five major social bookmarking sites:Delicious.com (PR7 Nofollow)
a1-webmarks.com (PR4 Dofollow)
searchles.com (PR5 Dofollow)
faves.com (PR5 Nofollow)
spurl.net (PR6 Dofollow)
It also supports around 50 Scuttle and Scuttleplus sites. Scuttle sites are social bookmarking sites that are created using th open source scuttle script. Perusing through the current list in Bookmarking Demon 4, it looks like most of them are pretty spammy. From a random sampling it looks like most have no pagerank, but they do give you dofollow links. I do wonder though if Google will penalize you for having your sites linked on these spam type sites. I personally don't care to risk it, so I cannot attest to their effectiveness one way or the other. Feel free to leave a comment if you have an opinion on the matter.
All in all, I really like what I see in Bookmarking Demon 4 beta. I'm still anxiously awaiting the new Pinging feature which will notify the search engines to your newly added links. I also hope we see more of the major social bookmarking sites added to the program. However, the features that have been implemented so far seem to work quite well. Bookmarking Demon 4 has proven to be quite stable and works as claimed. When the final version is released, Edwin has stated that it will be sold for $147. However, if you buy the program now, you can still get it for the old price of $97. There really is no risk to try, as there's a 60 day money back guarantee. I've even tested that as well, and yes, I did get my money back. So give Bookmarking Demon a try, and generate web traffic and obtain more backlinks for your sites.
