Twilight And History

by Nancy Reagin

Twilight and History (Wiley Pop Culture and History Series)

Amazon Price: $4.98 (as of 02/17/2012)Buy Now

The characters of the Twilight Saga carry a rich history that shapes their identities and actions over the course of the series. Edward, for instance, may look like a seventeen-year-old teen heartthrob, but was actually born in 1901 and died during the Spanish Influenza of 1918. His adopted sister, Alice, was imprisoned in an insane asylum in 1920 and treated so badly there that even becoming a vampire was a welcome escape. This book is the first to explore the history behind the Twilight Saga's characters and their stories. You'll learn about what life might have been like for Jasper Whitlock Hale, the Confederate vampire who fought during the Civil War, Carlisle Cullen, the Puritan witch hunter-turned-vampire who participated in the witchcraft persecutions in Early Modern England, and the history of the Quileute culture that shaped Jacob and his people -and much more.

* Gives you the historical backdrop for Twilight Saga characters and events
* Adds a whole new dimension to the Twilight novels and movies
* Offers fresh insights on vampires, romance, and history

The first look at the philosophy behind Stephenie Meyer's bestselling Twilight series

Bella and Edward, and their family and friends, have faced countless dangers and philosophical dilemmas in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight novels. This book is the first to explore them, drawing on the wisdom of philosophical heavyweights to answer essential questions such as: What do the struggles of "vegetarian" vampires who control their biological urge for human blood say about free will? Are vampires morally absolved if they kill only animals and not people? From a feminist perspective, is Edward a romantic hero or is he just a stalker? Is Jacob "better" for Bella than Edward?

As absorbing as the Meyer novels themselves, Twilight and Philosophy:

* Gives you a new perspective on Twilight characters, storylines, and themes
* Helps you gain fresh insights into the Twilight novels and movies
* Features an irresistible combination of vampires, romance, and philosophy

Twilight and Philosophy is a must-have companion for every Twilight fan, whether you're new to the series or have followed it since the beginning.

Forbidden Fruit

Alucard-Love says:

This book is the AIDS of literature. Bella and Edward in a terrible relationship. Vampires dp not sparkle and they do not spare humans. Stephenie Meyer breaks every single vampire description.

So I say: Forbidden Fruit

Thirst Quenching Fantasy

Heather says:

Its a wonderful romantic ficton piece thats teens and adults can both enjoy. Its terriable that people see the the need to overanalize it to pieces. Id rather my child watch twilight over gossip girl or the kardashians anyday!

Tiana Cullen says:

The only thing these books have done are make me fall in love with reading!! It is an amazing series and i think every girl should read it!!

elina di leo says:

i m the same person...

elina di leo says:

Complex writer, with a feeling inspired in Classical ones, that s why is not shallow, and it provokes discussion among teachers as well

lindarandall says:

added you to my lensroll I've created 3 twilight lenses too, but I like your layout better lol

Scarlett says:

Finally, there is a book that isn't too sexual, or bloody. And yet it still has vampires and werewolves. To me, it takes talent to write like that. They do not have to have fangs. And what's wrong with sparkling? Is imagination a crime now?I didn't want to read another vampire book where it's:vampire slaughters poor, defenseless human girl. And continues his rage on the town.

It gives a whole new meaning to vampires and werewolves!Seeing that vampires do not exist, there is no real description of what a vampire should be.What is wrong with them sparing humans? So what, it's wrong to have immortals that actually have reguard for human life?Don't have such a closed mind of Twilight. If you truly examine it, you'll see how different it is, and how that is what makes it amazing.

newbizmau says:

Still reading Eclipse, but Yes, I have to say its definitely quenching something.

About The Author

Loading
I have authored 50+ lenses about the Twilight Saga. My 13 year old daughter introduced me to the books and I have been a huge fan ever since.

This lens, "Dissecting Twilight" was inspired all the books about the Twilight Saga and their influence on younger readers. I noticed that some parents, teachers and church leaders were dissecting the books in search of masked evils that might corrupt their children.

In my opinion, the books are just delicious fantasy and should be enjoyed as such without examination under the microscope.

My own daughter read the first three books before she finally convinced me to read them. When Breaking Dawn was released we took turns reading our single copy of the book. We had several discussions about some of the mature situations that unraveled as we read together and I have no regrets about letting her read the series.
