Think about yourself as cruise ship that hits a rough storm in the middle of the ocean. What will you do? You must be prepared to change course, which means having a plan B. Poor planning could have your ship running out of steam in the middle of the ocean. Then again, what if everything is going okay, but you need better than okay to weather the rough waters of a recession. Let us sail forward with some tips to boost your success in 2011.

You could combine your work experience with some on-line training and education and rise above your competition?

Get certified. Certification gives you credibility, industry recognition, and best alternate for experience thus helps you get a job with no experience across many career fields. Employers trust and feel more confident in promoting people who are certified.

Ask. Asking for what you want is the simplest way to get good advice and know where you stand with your manager. Set up a meeting or arrange a lunch meeting and ask what you can do to grow and excel. You will be presented with some ideas and learn more about your strengths and weaknesses as an employee. From there, you should have a clearer picture of how to improve. Job Search. If you find yourself going nowhere fast with your current company, keep sailing to find a better job that meets your ambition and ability.
