Boracay Island, Philippines - White Beaches, Crystal Turquoise Water, Exotic Resort!

If you are ever in the area of the Philippines, you should definitely make the effort to catch a domestic flight from Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Domestic Terminal) or from the Macapagal Airport at Pampanga's Clark Airfield to head for Caticlan Airport on the island of Panay and the short ride on the bangka across to channel to Boracay Island.

It's well known among travel writers to never use the cliches of "white sandy beaches" and the "palms hanging over the turquoise water"--but unfortunately (or fortunately), if you look up the word "paradise" in a dictionary, "Boracay" seems to be what's pictured there. Boracay IS the ultimate in representing what all other "tropical islands" should aspire to be.

Maybe the Most Complicated Thing About Boracay Island Is Getting There!

Okay, getting to this paradise island in seemingly the middle of nowhere is somewhat of a problem. But with the Internet, even that is greatly simplified.

First, you have to get yourself to the Philippines.

My family and I made almost a month of our planned trip to the Philippines--and flew by Cathay Pacific Airlines through their hub in Hong Kong (where we spent a wonderful 3-day layover exploring Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and Lantau Island.

From Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila, It's about a 1-1/2 hour flight.

Domestic Flight from NAIA to Caticlan, Aklan Province, Panay Island, in the Visayas Area of the Philippines

For the flight from NAIA to Caticlan, we departed from the Manila Domestic Airport on a Zest Airlines small propeller plane for a 1-1/2 hour flight.

Plane Arriving at Catlican Airport, Aklan Province, Philippines

Caticlan Airport

Our plane came in to Catlican Airport, Aklan Province, after about a 1-1/2 hour flight from Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Domestic Flights Terminl). The view as we approach Catlican is amazing--you can see the white beaches of nearby Boracay Island and as you get ready to touch down, you can see carabao nonchalantly grazing in the fields next to the runway and the ramp crews waiting by the terminal for you plane to pull up. The terminal at Catlican is small-- "Gate 1" and "Gate 2" are doors only 10 feet from each other--they open onto the same ramp area from the same internal terminal room. Amusing. http://www.squidoo.com/boracay_island_life

I Wanna Go Back.... "Back to the Island"....

Playing on the beach and in the water of Boracay Island brought back all those memories...

Watching the sun set down, and hearing the night birds cry... and watching the waves roll in... and the sand between my toes...

I'll be back in the islands ....

(At least I pull out my guitar once in a while and howl at the moon belting out this song... --not quite as well as Leon Russell did... many years ago... when I was on THE ISLAND!)
