We've traced our "Herring" family tree back to 1721 when the name was spelt "Heron" so, coming from the North-East, probably we're related to the English Middle Marsh Reivers of the Heron clan. The book "Steel Bonnets" is brilliant!

Clan Henderson or MacEaunrigh in Gaidhlig lived all over the Scottish highlands, lowlands, and Islands. I don't doubt that we were present along the borders during this time in history.

I'm related to them by birth and by a family marriage; my mother's line are descended from the Carlisles and my aunt (her sister) married a Graham from the Tyne, so my cousins are even more reiver than me.

Tait, A small family group whose homeland was in the Scottish Middle March. Just recently began tracing my Tait family ancestry since the death of my grandmother Katherine Duppman nee Tait almost a year ago. I am having the time of my life, and opening my mind and heart to so much- so much to learn and so little time!
