Boro Lampwork Beads Add a Special Touch to Jewelry

I have a special love for art glass in general. The colors that you can find in glass are so luminescent, and vibrant. But my favorite art glass is lampwork beads made from boroscilicate glass.

Lampwork beads are handmade glass beads that are made by the artist one by one using a torch. The artist takes rods of glass and slowly, painstakingly heats the glass over the torch until the molten glass is soft enough to be formed.

The artist then takes the molten glass and forms it around varying size rods to form the lampwork bead. The word lampwork comes from the torch. Boroscilicate or boro is the type of glass used to make the beads. The other popular glass is Murano glass. Murano glass is also beautiful, but I prefer boroscilicate glass.

The best beads lampwork artists make are truly works of art. They can be a focal bead or a series of beads made into bracelets, earrings or necklaces. I have researched boroscilicate bead artists online, and this lens is an introduction to the work they do.
