Boromir, Captain of the White Tower
The One Ring worked hard to bend Boromir to its will. Boromir desired the Ring as a weapon to give his people strength to repel Sauron, and eventually he tried to take it from Frodo.
Though Boromir fell to the temptation of the Ring, he redeemed himself when he sacrificed his life defending the hobbits Pippin and Merry from orcs.
Three Reasons Why Boromir Rules
- He's a good brother. Though Boromir was more of a warrior than his younger brother Fararmir, the two of them were very close. Their father favored Boromir and scorned Faramir, but Boromir did not let that sour his relationship with his brother.
- He doesn't give up. Exactly how many arrows did it take to finally bring this guy down? Boromir just doesn't quit!
- He admits when he's wrong. You might have to just about kill him first, but at least he's not above deathbed confessionals.
Boromir According to Wikipedia
Boromir is a supporting character in J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium. He appears in the first two volumes of The Lord of the Rings (The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers), and is mentioned in the last volume, The Return of the King.
He was the brother of Faramir and the eldest son of Denethor II, the last ruling Steward of Gondor.

Boromir's Weakness
Boromir could never quite accept that the Ring would corrupt anyone who would try to use it. He knew the Ring was a powerful weapon, and he wanted to use its strength to defend his people. He believed--or wanted to believe--that he could master the Ring and use it for good.Boromir summed up his feelings on the matter to Frodo: "True-hearted Men, they will not be corrupted. We of Minas Tirith have been staunch through long years of trial. We do not desire the power of wizard-lords, only strength to defend ourselves, strength in a just cause. And behold! in our need chance brings to light the Ring of Power. It is a gift, I say; a gift to the foes of Mordor. It is mad not to use it, to use the power of the Enemy against him."
It was in this way that the Ring was able to eat away at Boromir's will. He became nervous and broody during the Quest, sometimes murmuring to himself and biting his nails. When the temptation became too much to bear, he tried to take the Ring from Frodo by force. Madness possessed him as he raged and accused Frodo of planning to betray them all to Sauron. Boromir caused Frodo to flee from the Fellowship.
Boromir was ashamed when he came to his senses and realized what he had done. However, he redeemed himself by sacrificing his life in an effort to save Merry and Pippin from a raiding party of orcs. Just before he died, he told Aragorn that he tried to take the Ring. He asked for forgiveness.
Although Boromir was strong, noble and loyal, he had a flaw: Pride. This coupled with his desire to defend his people made him vulnerable to the Ring's influence.
