Training Boston Terriers

You will quickly find out that a dogs life needs structure, and your Boston Terrier will do best when kept on a schedule. Dogs are animals of habit and they like to wake up, eat, play, go for walks, and sleep in nearly the same pattern each and every day. When your Boston Terrier puppy first comes home, do not play with him constantly, as he is young and needs time to rest. Keep him on a schedule as much as you can so that he will learn YOUR routine very quickly. If he knows that you rise at 7 am every morning, and shortly after that you will take him outside, he will learn to wait for you to let him out rather than peeing in his crate.

Habits, both good and bad, are learned at an early age which eventually become lifelong habits. It is best to begin with the right foot. For example, don't allow your Boston terrier to chew on the legs of your old furniture. Before long, he will be chewing on the feet of your expensive dining-room table. You need to quickly set limits and make sure that the puppy sticks to them. Boston Terrier training is vital to the success of your dog's obedience and quality of life for you and him.

Potty Training - Boston Terrier

The same principles apply to the puppy's toilet routine. Having good habits translates into clean habits, and hence the beginning of house training the dog. Boston terriers are bright dogs and learn the house rules very easily. Keep the puppy confined to a specific area, such as the kitchen and family room, until he is trained and mature. You can use baby gates to help confine and he will quickly learn that he is welcome in certain areas of the house and not welcome in other areas. Also, put him in his crate when you go out so that he learns to be comfortable in the house and he can sleep until you return.

Boston Terrier Training Tips

Here are some Boston Terrier training tips for you to chew on:

1. Start training your dog as early as possible. The quicker you can get their habits corrected, the better.

2. Be patient. Sometimes your dog can have a difficult time learning new behaviors and you need to stay on task and avoid getting frustrated if possible.

3. Be consistent. The best way for your dog to learn is for you to be consistent. If you change things up, the dog will become confused and develop bad behaviors as a result.

How to Train a Boston Terrier

Learning how to train a Boston Terrier is the first step in developing an obedient dog. Fortunately for you, my friend, Boston Terriers are very trainable dogs and only need a little bit of encouragement. Remember to be patient and always give positive reinforcement with your terrier. The very best thing you can do is stay firm and let your dog know who is boss. They are looking for a pack leader and that needs to be you. The worst thing that can happen is to have a frightened and confused dog. This will make training him or her extremely difficult.
