The Bo-Sox!
If ESPN were to do a survey of the five most memorable baseball games ever, I would bet my house that one of those spots would have a game in which the Boston Redsox played. In fact it would probably be either the 1975 game 6 World Series game in which Carlton Fisk hit his now famous "walk-off" shot. Or maybe it would be anyone of the games in which the Sox staged, probably the most memorable comeback in the history of Pro sports.
With 26 World Series banners under their belts, the vaunted (and in most of New England, at least ) hated Yankees are surely the most famous team in all of pro sports. Even I must concede that, as much as it pains me to do so. But to dismiss the Boston Redsox mystique amoung sports fans is to not be in tune with the history of baseball. And anyone who is a fan of baseball must, by definition of the word fan, be a fan of baseball history. In my mind, the two go hand in hand. Now, having said all that, what teams come to mind when the term Major League baseball is spoken? Of course if you are a baseball fan then your favorite team would come first, but you must, in being an objective person, leave that out of the equation for the purposes of this exercise. Because if your favorite team were, say, the Montreal Expos (Washington Nationals), how could you, in all honesty, say that team's name with regard to baseball lore? Of course, you wouldn't mention it. You would honestly think of teams like the Brooklyn Dodgers, or the Yankees, and the Redsox, perhaps the Cubs or even the Cardinals or the Giants. But out of all the Major league teams, only a handful would be storied enough to come to mind.
I'll be the first to admit, most of the Redsox history has been a side note to the Yankees greatness. The Sox have, time after time, played second fiddle to the great Yankee teams of the 30's, 50's, and 90's. In between those decades however, have been played at least two of the most memorable World Series match-ups ever, in 1975 and 1986. Yes, the Sox lost both of them, and in grand fashion. Not to mention the one game playoff in 1978 against none other then the hated Yankees. There are other moments between these two teams that I will get to later on but for now I am bringing to light the memorability of past Redsox teams on a National or even international level. Yes, I said international, this is the 21st century here people, folks from The Dominican Republic have been following Major league baseball for years, and this just in; they might even be able to play a little ball down there too. Oh, and with the arrival of players like the New York's Hideki Matsui, Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki, and Boston's Daisuke Matsuzaka, Japan has solidified itself as a Major League wanna-be, and that is not meant as a derogatory label against them either as they play the game with every bit as much knowledge and probably more passion than our own boys do.
Okay, so there is the world view of baseball, and the Redsox have put themselves right in the international spotlight with the courting and signing of Matsuzaka. Of course winning the world series last year helped take the sting out of the hefty price tag ($103,000,000.00...and some change). It cost the Sox 51 million just to talk to Matsuzaka.
Well, I'll try to keep this lens updated, but you know how things go when you have more than ten lenses and you want to keep at least most of them hopping...you end up with most of them stale because you can't be everywhere at once, and end up with that dear in the head lights look.
So check back once in a while, and don't forget to rate this lens...THAT is a big thing here you know.

And NOW the Lyrics

TESSIE
by: Dropkick Murphys
Tessie is the Royal Rooters rally cry
Tessie is the tune they always sung
Tessie echoed April through October nights
After serenading Stahl, Dinneen and Young
Tessie is a maiden with a sparkling eye
Tessie is a maiden with a love
She doesn't know the meaning of her sight
She's got a comment full of love
And sometimes when the game is on the line
Tessie always carried them away
Up the road from third base to Huntington
The boys will always sing and sway
Two! Three! Four!
Tessie, Nuff Said McGreevey shouted
We're not here to mess around
Boston, you know we love you madly
Hear the crowd roar to your sound
Don't blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn't live without you
Tessie, you are the only only only
The Rooters showed up at the grounds one day
They found their seats had all been sold
McGreevey led the charge into the park
Stormed the gates and put the game on hold
The Rooters gave the other team a dreadful fright
Boston's tenth man could not be wrong
Up from third base to Huntington
They'd sing another victory song
Two! Three! Four!
Tessie, Nuff Said McGreevey shouted
We're not here to mess around
Boston, you know we love you madly
Hear the crowd roar to your sound
Don't blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn't live without you
Tessie, you are the only only only
The Rooters gave the other team a dreadful fright
Boston's tenth man could not be wrong
Up from third base to Huntington
They'd sing another victory song
Two! Three! Four!
Tessie, Nuff Said McGreevey shouted
We're not here to mess around
Boston, you know we love you madly
Hear the crowd roar to your sound
Don't blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn't live without you
Boston, you are the only only only
Don't blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn't live without you
Red Sox, you are the only only only

I know that isn't very original, but then again, neither is having to have a title for b> Twitter module either.

THe Year The Sox Returned!
2004 marked the year that the Boston Redsox, under the ownership of John Henry, and the wizardry of Theo Epstein, became great again.
Boston Red Sox- "Greatest Day"- Yankees Choke
Boston Red Sox complete greatest comeback in Major League Baseball's playoff history by winning 4 straight games against their hated rivals the New York Yankees. I made this the drunken/ hung-over morning after the Sox won game 7 of that series. Yankees SUCK! Sick B

Curt Schilling; learning the ropes in Boston
No Way, this is Boston, not New York, where all you have to do is cash big checks...okay, well you have to that here too, but there is more to it than that.
Watch Schilling, in this video as he prepares himself for Boston baseball.
It's All About The Sox!
Even In The Winter The Sox Are Hot!
"WILL" they sign anyone from free agency? Will they spend the money to keep up with the Yanks? Well, not in "09" obviously... Ole, er I mean, the new Steinbrenner would never allow that. Not the same year that the Yanks new stadium is due to open. The best thing the Red Sox could do is go out and beat them, regardless of how much freakin money they spend. That would be bitter salt in the still open wound of the 2004 ALCS.
In Boston we call it the Hot Stove Topics or, just the Hot Stove. Of course, now they have it on the MLB network, and maybe it is on other networks and in other towns. I shouldn't presume to think the "Hot Stove" was thought of in Boston, because I really don't know.
Sweet Caroline Baby!
Where did this song come from?

We Win Again!

Baseball On ESPN
We all know ESPN is the undisputed king when it comes to sports reporting. But this widget is all about..that's right "America's pastime", I said it.- Kelvim Escobar, New York Mets agree on one-year deal
- Sources: Reliever Bobby Howry, Arizona Diamondbacks reach deal
- Atlanta Braves, Troy Glaus in serious discussions, close to agreement
- Oakland Athletics, Justin Duchscherer agree to deal, source says
- Closer Capps agrees to one-year deal with Washington Nationals
- Source: Los Angeles Angels, Fernando Rodney agree to 2-year deal
- Chan Ho Park sues former Dodgers teammate Chad Kreuter
- Umpires union, Major League Baseball agree on five-year labor contract
- New York Yankees finalize Nick Johnson deal
- Toronto Blue Jays finalize trade to acquire Brandon Morrow from Seattle Mariners
The Shot Heard Round The "Nation"
Yeah we got our hearts ripped out the next night, but what the heck right, I was young, I got over it...sort of.
All Things Redsox

The Trophy!
Four In a row baby!
April 22 07
The video below will not be nominated for an Oscar for editing or cinematography, but you will be able to capture the feeling of electricity at Fenway Park that night as the Sox belted their four home runs in a row off the Yanks. The problem with getting better videos is that MLB, in their unbelievable greed cried foul because of the people who filmed this event on their cell phones and put it on "You Tube." Or at least, that seems to be the problem with some of the videos, because the last one I had here was taken off You Tube due to Copy Right infringement. This video is owned by Kindledust.

- Growing up in Rhode Island, my dad used to take me to Red Sox games quite often, riding the train to and from Boston, which was a big part of the fun for me. I also liked watching the players :) and kinda liked watching the games too! I remember this one game--I don't remember the year or anthing, but I was born in '69 and probably wasn't more than about 10 years old or so. But the Red Sox were down 0 to ... well, some big number. It was the bottom of the 9th. May dad kept getting up leave, but I kept begging him to stay right to the last out, no matter what. Reluctantly, he agreed. And, wouldn't ya know, the Sox came back to win it. It was the best game ever! I don't remember which team they were playing, but I do remember how excited my dad was. Oh, and did I mention ... great lens! :)

I started following the Boston Redsox when I was 12 years old, during the 1975 playoff season. I got a bittersweet introduction to what it meant to be...
