Another great lens for bottle caps. You have inspired me to give this a try! I've got a Sizzix Sidekick on the way so I'm hoping it will do the flattening for me.

We used to set bottle caps on train tracks. The only problem was finding them after the train passed by. Your way makes much more sense!
  • scarlettohairy Aug 2, 2011 @ 2:55 pm | delete
So nice! I have always used my bottlecaps just the way they come but this looks fancy! Love the edges when they're smashed.

Gorgeous. I have not known the right way to flatten bottlecaps. I have always just given them a smack with the hammer, but the results are definitely substandard compared to your way. I will lensroll this to my scrapbook lens.
  • lizziebeth Oct 5, 2010 @ 12:35 pm | delete
I really like the way these bottlecaps look after they are flattened. I also like the suggestion about getting a Sizzix machine. It is now on my Presents to Myself list for the future.

Well that's interesting, I never heard of this before. And there's a machine to flatten bottlecaps? Amazing. The folks that make giant puppets use flattened bottlecaps as washers when they drill through the paper mache into support struts, so they won't tear out. Thanks for this!
  • BevsPaper Aug 9, 2009 @ 7:58 pm | delete

OMG this is so cool I have got to try this! We like to go to a place in our town that has a collection of old historic buildings from the 1700s to the 1940s, and they have an old general store that sells glass bottles of cola with the metal caps. I have been wanting to make a scrapbook page with a vintage look for our visits to this place, and this is absolutely perfect for it. I am inspired now... and I am rambling. ***** you rock, thanks.

I love this lens. I have used the expensive bottle caps that you get in scrapbook stores but I haven't thought about flattening my own. I am a great fan of anything that involves recycling and if you can save $$ while you recycle, then so much the better. Well done lens.
  • Yochana Nov 17, 2008 @ 6:34 pm | delete
That is seriously cool! I've never seen this done with bottle caps before. It's got my little imagination is going nutts!

Awesome lens! I'll think of you when I experiment and smash my finger with the hammer. LOL

I love crafting myself - and when I saw the lens title, it reminded me of a show I saw on tv about a guy who flattened aluminum cans and shingled(and sided) his home. He used a BIG sledgehammer, and made no false claims about it being a piece of cake! I bet if he'd see your lens he would come up with a way to make a can-sized sizzix!
  • Squidster Nov 11, 2008 @ 1:18 am | delete
I love the creativity and originality of this lens. The step by step photo tutorial is a nice personal touch. Angel Blessings for the inspiration! ^:)^

  • Margo_Arrowsmith Oct 26, 2008 @ 10:30 am | delete
I am not a scrapbooker, but I would think that these bottle caps would have uses in other crafts, and collaging. Great that you lists where to find them, because it isn't easy to find glass bottles any more.

    Nice lens. 5*
