Lucille's

Great Louisiana-style cajun breakfasts

Always good, everything on the menu is excellent.

Great regional southern recipes.

Outstanding CORRECT grits. Best in Boulder.

Great fresh fruit bowls, fresh-squeezed OJ and grapefruit juices.

The "Eggs Pontchartrain" is awesome... pan-fried trout, eggs your way, topped with an amazing warm hollandaise (best I've EVER had).

The homemade hot biscuits (served with most dishes) are almost a meal in itself.

In Boulder, on 14th near Spruce.

Dot's Diner on the Hill

Best Local-Flavor Breakfast

Greasy, tasty homemade breakfasts.

Try this place if you want to feel like you're right on campus at CU.

Many vegetarian choices.

The patrons here are a mix of students (with hangovers), local Boulder folk, and various bohemians.

The coffee is among the best served in town.

Try their specialty -- the huevos rancheros.

"Arnold's Eggs" is a very tasty stick-to-your-bones plate, with a split homemade biscuit topped with eggs and thin-sliced ham smothered with their homemade red-eye gravy. Mmmmm.

In Boulder on the corner of Broadway and University (you may have to search for parking, but it's not too bad).

Village Coffee Shop

Best Greasy-spoon Breakfast

This place is the closest thing to a "diner" in Boulder.

Great breakfasts, try the breakfast burrito smothered in green chile.

Most plates come with a healthy portion of their (from scratch) hash browns.

The pancakes are excellent.

Always busy on weekend mornings, but never a long wait.

In Boulder, on Folsom near Arapahoe.

The Golden Buff

Nice, casual breakfast spot -- great on weekends

Nothing fancy, but just a good breakfast, with a great selection to choose from.

Can't go wrong with the eggs benedict -- traditional, and scrumptious.

Everything is always good, reasonably priced. Usually busy.

In Boulder, 28th and Canyon, in the Best Western parking lot.

D'Napoli

Best Neighborhood Italian

This is one of Boulder's best kept secrets.

D'Napoli is all about consistency and simplicity. The sauces are always great -- from the house "red" to the spicy fra-diavolo.

Most dishes come with a FANTASTIC house salad. Always cold, crispy, right out of the salad fridge. Even the bowl is cold. I recommend the homemade creamy (kinda spicy) garlic dressing.

The complimentary out-of-the-oven garlic-topped rolls are a bit hit.

INCREDIBLE pasta dishes -- all of them. The spaghetti and meatballs is the best in town.

Great pizza and awesome homemade sub sandwiches too.

Service is sometimes a bit slow, but worth the wait.

Carelli's

Upscale Italian

Just really incredible meals, great food - nice recipes.

Be careful when they bring the complementary "right out of the oven" garlic bread. It's unbelievable.

Nice place on a cold, snowy night -- they have a rockin' fireplace in the center of the dining room.

Feel's like a 5-star, but prices aren't too high (entrees between $11 and $20).

The homemade soups are amazing.

Great beverages and coffees, I recommend reservations.

One of the best places in town for a business lunch -- never disappoints.

In Boulder, on Baseline and 30th.

L'Atelier

Upscale Continental

Somewhat-fancy, but laid-back in a Boulder kind of way.

UNBELIEVABLE entrees (beef, seafood, chicken, etc.), and desserts. They are served on large, rectangular ceramic plates, and the portions are very generous.

In my opinion this is 5-star quality, with 4-star prices. Most entrees (and the list is quite long) are between $18 and $25 -- similar places would be $30-$45.

Dress nicely but casual... incredible ambiance, probably need a reservation on weekends.

Try the baked chocolate "Pompeii" dessert -- with a warm "molten" center.

In Boulder, on Pearl near 18th.

Efrain's

Excellent Colorado-style Mexican Food

The recipes are all very tasty and everything is always freshly made.

The place is always busy in the evenings.

They have the best refried beans I've ever had.

If you like #10-hot -- go for the bowl of Chile Verde. Tender pork, in a tasty (very) spicy broth. Served with warm flour tortillas, refried beans, and rice topped with melted cheese.

The burritos are great, so are the taco salads and enchiladas, complementary chips and salsa, they make a great house margarita, prices are inexpensive.

They have expanded into 2 "new" locations. The newest is in Longmont off of Ken Pratt Blvd. The other is in Boulder on 63rd at Arapahoe.

My favorite location is the original on South Public Road and Baseline in Lafayette.

Ting's Place

Casual Chinese

This is my favoriite Chinese food in the entire Boulder area.

It's consistent, and the flavors are all really nice. Fresh food.

I really dig the Wonton Soup -- it's simple, but it's so excellent, and the Wonton dumplings are awesome. They sprinkle-on fresh scallions and add thinly-sliced tender pork upon your order.

They also do a great "Happy Family" mixed meat dish (chicken / beef / shrimp) in brown sauce... I like that one alot.

To finish, they serve complimentary fresh-sliced orange segments. Definitely a nice touch.

In Lafayette, on South Boulder Road, just east of 287.

Snarf's

Awesome toasted sandwiches

Some of the best sandwiches in town -- most are around $6 and are toasted.

If you're looking for a consistently GREAT sandwich with some real local Boulder ambiance, this is the place.

Try the meatball sub, or the prime-rib sub.

The chicken salad is always great. And I better mention the Italian as well -- it's got several fresh-sliced deli meats, and it ROCKS.

On Pearl, near 21st.

Salvaggio's Italian Deli

Choice Sandwiches

First, let's mention the fresh-baked rolls and subs. These are the foundations upon which these amazing creations are built.

You just have to try them to believe them. Piled high with freshly sliced Boar's Head meats and cheeses, fresh veggies and condiments.

They're great to-go also, especially for parties, picnics, whatever.

The homemade potato salad is always nice.

These are just awesome sandwiches -- you can't go wrong.

Don't be put-off by their east-coast soup-nazi-esque schtick. It's part of the routine.

In Boulder on Pearl near 26th.

Baked in Boulder

Authentic Chicago-style Deep Dish Pizza

I found this place by accident, stopped in, and was curious.

The pizza chef behind the counter offered me a piping hot sample -- a small, but tall wedge topped with mozzarella, tomatoes and sausage. I was hooked.

This is the real deal -- the owner has apparently been perfecting the Chicago-style recipe for a number of years.

It's pizza by the slice (about $5), and they are huge, tasty, and darned authentic.

On 15th, south of Canyon.

Sushi Tora

Best Sushi in Boulder

No question, this is by far the best sushi in town. Always the freshest fish, and highest quality.

Even the mainstream varieties (tuna, salmon, yellowtail) are totally stand-out.

Don't miss the saba (mackerel), and tamago (egg omelet). Among the best I've ever had.

The chefs are masterful, seasoned, and take great pride in their creations.

They have a nice lunch special -- Shirashi -- worth a try -- it's a mixed selection of fresh fish on a bed of rice.

In Boulder on 10th and Pearl.

Sushi Zanmai

Outstanding Sushi and Japanese Cuisine

This is a great place to go with friends, out of town guests, etc. The ambiance is excellent.

Always great, very attentive staff, top notch sushi.

Great miso soup, nice sushi rolls.

Gets crowded.

In Boulder, on Spruce near Broadway.

Japango

Best value sushi, great specials

This is where to go for decent, reasonably priced sushi. They have some great lunch and early dinner specials, and an all-u-can-eat on Tuesday nights for $30.

Not the best I've had, but definitely good, and a great value for the (happy hour) price.

My favs... they make an excellent California roll, also, try the spicy tuna hand-roll.

Great veggie tempura too.

On the Pearl street mall (near Broadway).

14th Street Bar and Grill

Upscale Bar and Grill

The entree's can get a little pricey, but go for dinner.

Don't be embarressed to try the Turkey Sandwich. It's freshly roasted turkey with ALL the trimmings... thanksgiving-on-a-plate anytime of year, and only around $10 bucks -- it's incredible.

The place seems kinda fancy, but you can have a great meal there reasonably if you try... plus you can enjoy a walk on the mall afterward.

Lots of tables next huge floor-to-ceiling windows that look out upon the Pearl Street pedestrian mall -- great people watching.

On Pearl street mall, at 14th.
