Bournemouth Air Show

Back for a second year The Bournemouth Air Show has turned into Bournemouth's big summer tourists event attracting over 150,000 people who pack themselves onto the beach. For more information on and other Dorset events go to my Bournemouth Air Show page. This you will find on my Dorset travel guide site The Dorset Guru.

The 2009 Show

The 2009 show is now over, and was a big success like last year. The weather was excellent for the whole 3 days and we got to see some fantastic displays by the Red Arrows of course but let us not forget the displays by the Typhoon Eurofigher,Vulcan bomber and World War Two aircraft such as the Flying Fortress and the Spitfire.

The even got off to a rather lame start with a firework display on the opening night billed as the Roar on the Shore. This was supposed to be a world record attenpt to let off 110,000 fireworks in less than sixty seconds.

Before that was a firework display lasting about 8 minutes which has one false start, and was not unlike most firework display we see over Bournemouth and Poole during the summer.

After that was the big event but in the end only lasted about 8 seconds. So many people came to watch, and risked clamping and fines by parking anywhere they wanted.

They must surely have wondered if it was worth the risk for an eight second display.

Let us hope next year is worth all the neck straining and pushing through big crowds to watch.
